I have watched Republican after Republican praise him for being a model of a great president. I will not disclose my personal views of Reagan at this time I am just curious of your views.

Depends on the criteria. I would say sure he was a good President.

He was a better than average soap salesman on TV.

He was one of our worst presidents. He was a coward and left Lebanon after the bombing which paved the way for OBL to do his thing. His voodoo economics made our economy a shambles. He was a union buster, i.e.,the air traffic controllers. He deregulated in such a way as to help bring about all of our current economic problems, his lack of understanding of AIDS and drug addiction paved the way for ignorance about both of those topics. His wife was a ninny and ;his kids were without merit.

He was one of the worst presidents in history, along with Hoover, Bush and the rest of the republican cabal of numnutz.

But why? I mean there are ways to support either side.

He projected strength which is good. He compromised on issues at times which is good.

He ran up large deficits which is bad. Iran contra bad perhaps neutral.

I vote good on the whole.

It was his best ever role, and his best paid acting job.

If you look at the views of those who whine about him you will realize that yes he was a good president

far better than the puke in the white house now or the puke he replaced

He was a good President.

Worthy of idolization/canonization? No. No President is. Not Clinton, not Reagan, not FDR, not even Washington.

Reagan was a cowardly President and a complete fool.

Why do some republicans like cowardly Hollywood actors that have sound byte 'jokes"?

His role before POTUS leading the Disney parade and being a charming old fool was perfect for him.

He was above average, who honestly had the best scape goat in the world.

All personal opinion with no substance to back it up. Telling you listed only Republician Presidents. Guess you thought Carter, and LBJ did a great job. Telling your blaming a President for AIDS and drug addiction issues. Your not much for personal responsiblities are you? Guess you think it is much better that the Govt. takes care of you?

Was President Reagan one of the worse, IMO, no. Was he one of the bests, IMO, no.

Why do some "others" like peanut farmers like Carter, or a texan like LBJ? For that matter why do some like the current President?

Voted no - I lay the blame for starting our deficit mess at Reagan's feet, He cut the tax rate on the rich substantially and borrowed heavily to continue spending at the same level. Our economy has not since - and may never - recover from Reagan huge blunder.

No, Reagan was not a good President. He blew up the balance between spending and revenue that had contributed to decades of debt reduction following WWII. He is the founding father of our out of control national debt. His mantra of laissez faire government and deregulation paved the way for the Savings and Loan crisis and the recent Great Recession. When the country was still recovering from Vietnam and the Watergate scandals his message that "government is the problem" was extremely destructive. His Iran Contra scandal made Clinton's Lewinsky affair look like a jaywalking infraction.

On the positive side, he did support Volcker's extremely tough medicine for the economy which was ultimately successful, and he did simplify the tax code, which was a good thing.

With Nixon it was.... "What did he know and when did he know it"

Trickle-down/'Reaganomics'.
Cutting taxes for the rich, exploding the deficits.. leading to the Stock Market Crash of 1987.
The model 'W' followed to get to a similar but bigger Crash 6 years into his presidency 20 years later.
(Thanks Guys, that's why I made money on the second one!)

Who can forget, Ed Meese, James Watt, (Was it National Parks or just Federal Land this guy wanted to lease?)
and David Stockman who eventually came clean and told the truth.
Oh... and his appointments/other dates we subsequently found out.. set by Nancy's astrologer.
What an Idiot.

Overall, I'd say average. In general, his foreign policy was good, save the Iran-Contra Scandal. He projected strength, he contributed to the fall of dictatorships in Eastern Europe, and he had a hand in the downfall of the USSR. In general his domestic/economic policies were not good. Trickle down economics didn't trickle down, his deregulation helped create many of the corporate abuses that caused this country financial problems, and his policies helped create a widening of the upper and lower classes. As a person, I thought he presented very well. Overall, an average President.

He was an "OK" President. Certainly not the worst or the best. As people have already mentioned the whole Iran-Contra thing was a big screw up.

I don't blame him for the failure that was the Trickle Down theory. If people were not greedy it would have worked so at best Regan was more guilty of having too much faith in humans. The ones to actually blame for the Trickle Down theory failing are those big buisnesses that used those million (or billions) they made via it for personal greed/gain instead of being decent human beings and looking after society as a whole. I know it's cliche to use the saying (mainly because the movie Spiderman made it so..even though its been around far longer than that movie) but "With great power comes great responsibility". Those people that run corporations that make billions have failed in thier responsibility.

Maybe, because they had the highest annual jobs creation of any Presidents since WWII. Kennedy/LBJ took 12 million Americans out of poverty and that means they couldn't have put people on welfare, because they would be in poverty to be eligible.

Both Carter and Reagan were victims of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates, which was done to curb inflation. Reagan spent so much, tripling the national debt, that he should have had the best jobs creation of anyone, but he spent it on wasteful things. His military spending was all on programs that have been mothballed, except for the V-22 Marine Killer, one of the most costly programs for developing something not that complicated, that I've ever seen. Reagan is also responsible for taking the tax exempt status away from health care insurers and making us pay so much for policies that aren't worth a damn. Reagan was an old likeable man, too old to be President, who let the Heritage Foundation govern the country as he slept. He did a good job acting like President, when he was awake.

and yet those who followed him did little to stop the spending. (exception Clinton).

his spending was based on the fact that the dems loaded up any defense spending bill with tons of socialist pork

How did Clinton "stop the spending"?

his spending was based on the fact that the dems loaded up any defense spending bill with tons of socialist pork

Which Reagan promptly vetoed.

Oh wait..... sorry. Never mind. :3oops:

"Just say no" was a childish way to get serious about a serious problem, drugs and addiction. Personal responsibilty be damned...drug addiction is bigger than "just say no".

LBJ's war on poverty, as well as his signing of the civil rights act is something that we can be proud of. Reagan didn't do one thing that I can look back upon and be proud of. The USSR went bankrupt, Reagan didn't one thing that made it's downfall become a reality.

Carter was a tool and still is a tool. I've not got anthing good to say about the peanut farmer except that he should have stayed in Georgia farming peanuts for a living. He was a populist "wet dream" as it were.
