Pro-Life vs Anti-Choice

Neither. I think the issue boils down to one side being pro-abortion rights, the other side being anti-abortion rights. To put it another way, one side("pro-choice") believes abortion is a right and should be legal, the other side("pro-life") feels abortion should not be a right and should not be legal. Euphemisms aside, the division boils down to whether abortion should be legal.

I like it. Very easy to clearly identify your view, and it reduces all the red-herrings.

If you're "pro-choice", then you necessarily oppose Obama's single-payer health care plan and support private ownership of belt-fed machine guns. If you're "pro-abortion rights", then it's just that you support women having abortion available to them.

If you're "pro-life" then you necessarily oppose capitol punishment and do not eat meat. If you're "anti-abortion rights" then you just want most/all abortion banned.

I agree with you're last statement, but the problem I have with calling it pro or anti abortion rights is it assumes that abortion is a right and the only issue is whether you're pro that right or not. Otherwise it would be just as correct to say it's "pro right to life" vs "anti right to life".

That was actually why I added the last sentence, to clarify that those against legalized abortion don't believe it is a right. Legally however, in this country, until we amend the constitution or SCOTUS rules otherwise, abortion is a right.

Why do we need another abortion poll?

I actually like this poll. It is not about abortion so much as it is about the language used in the abortion debate. I think one of the reasons(though far from the only one) that abortion debate is so acrimonious is that the language is so extreme. The other side is "anti-choice" or "pro-death". People spend so much time trying to control the language and demonize those on the other side that rational discussions are impossible. It puts me in mind of a poll I made almost 3 years ago here: http://www.debatepolitics.com/polls/48446-president-obama-right.html

To catch the irony of anti-choicers selecting a poll option.

Dammit, I sprayed coffee all ever when I read this...

Its blatantly obvious that conservatives can be either. ...same with liberals.
Other would be the better vote..
In a "perfect" world there would be no choice, no abortion, and this is coming, but in the distant future.

Conservatives could argue that there will always be a 'choice', we just want to change the consequence.

Too irrelevant. This thread isn't about conservatives being pro-choice.

You're the one who is claiming conservatives are pro-life or anti-choice. I'm telling you that you're wrong, there are other alternatives. Now if you want to say that *SOME* conservatives are that way, fine.

Because this notion that I am "anti-choice" needs to be addressed.

Ah, so someone called you "anti-choice."

Meanwhile there's a thread where Mr.V is implying that anybody who is pro-choice really just gets their thrills from killing babies.

I guess it's alright when you call liberals names, but turn it around and it "needs to be addressed."

You're the one who can't stay on topic. Now if you want to start your own poll, and confuse the issue even further, then be my guest. I'm sure Liberals and RINO's alike will love that. ;)

We're talking about human life here. It's whimsical for someone to start bitching about her rights when those rights spell the end of unborn human life. No, I'm defending the right to life. You're defending the right to choose whether an unborn baby lives or dies. The Religious Right is right, and the Left is wrong.

The Religious Right is Pro-Life, and really, the discussion can end right here.

In a "perfect" world there would be no choice? Isn't there a word for that?

If this were true then there would be no one on the "Religious Right" that want the death penalty and no Republican President would have started or entered into any war.

As far as who is right and who is wrong, well, that just depends on your point of view.

I didn't say anything about the religious right.

Actually what I think about abortion is that the government should stay out of our sex lives. Make a moral decision on your own.

The word "pro-abortion" does not work with those that are pro-choice. The reason being is that just because you want abortion to stay legal politically it does not mean that you personally want abortion around.

Myself on a personal level can't not understand how a person could have an abortion. But politically I believe that a person should be able to make up thier own minds based upon thier own beliefs. I understand that what I believe isn't what someone else believes. I also understand that it is wrong to force your beliefs onto other people.

Very respectable and respectful statement. I'm pro-choice, but respect what you just wrote.

That would explain why I put the word "rights" after the word "pro-abortion". Done that way they become what we call a phrase. "Pro-abortion rights". You got to look at all the words. When you ignore words you make silly objections.

Didn't so much as ignore it as I did just read it wrong. That was my bad and I do apologize.

But for anyone that does call pro-choicers "pro-abortion" read what I said! :D

I apologize for being snippy. I am not used to babysitting and I am kinda stressed out. Every time the least peep comes out of the baby monitor I go running to check on her. This is like hard work...

In other words, as is no surprise whatsoever, you have no intelligent response.

Hehe I feel for ya. I babysit my neighbor's kids and though they're not babies I still come running when yelling starts, even when that yelling is fake (ie playing due to some game they're playing).
