Would they have changed your mind?

I keep hearing about how weak the Republican field is this year. And I agree with this. None of the candidates seem to be able to both attract enthusiasm from the base and be able to poll over independents.

My question is, for those who are planning on voting for Obama, a third party, or not voting at all, would any of these candidates that were rumored to run but didn't, actually cause you to change your vote to the GOP? I want to get a sense of which kinds of candidates pull in the most support from people not already supporting the Republicans. Please select all that apply.

And if you were already going to vote for whichever Republican candidate is nominated than I would ask you not to vote in this poll.

I chose someone else because the people listed in the poll either have no plan, have extreme religious views which would strip women of their rights, are more interested in the limelight, or belong to family having a history of getting us into wars.

Agreed, the religious wingnuts are right out, but I probably would have voted for Chris Christie if he had decided to run. It gets so disheartening to have to vote for the lesser of the evils every time.

Huckabee would've been a tremendous pick, and it's a crime that he's not a serious candidate. He's religious, but not to an obnoxious level, and his domestic policy is tremendous.

I haven't kept up too much on New jersey politics, but what I have heard from Chris Christie I have mostly liked. I liked how he told the teacher's unions to basically STFU.

He's seems more concerned with results than votes, at least as much as a politician can.

Sorry, no one in your list or and there is no one I know that is electable by Republican voters would get my vote.
My problems with Republicans are the Christian requirement for electability and the ilk.

Agreed! Not a chance.

I can be a conspiracy theorist sometimes, and part of me thinks that the Republican prospects have been made intentionally weak to ensure the continuation of Obama's projects during Presidency. It could also be a reflection of people's unwillingness to shake things up right now with a new POTUS, given the way things have been going.

My main issue with Obama's presidency is that it has lacked drive. Obama projected such a youthful power during his election campaign, and an idealism that also seemed like it could be put into actual form. It seems now like it has mostly been a product of celebrity, but it's an image that I can forgive people for wanting.

Whatever the outcome... I hope the next 4 years has more impetus toward positive changes, and an acknowledgment that our country needs a better direction on many levels.
