Are There More Liberals or More Conservatives on DP?

There are more people who have been brainwashed by our political culture to believe that they are either liberal or conservative.

Divide -THEY HAVE! Conquer - THEY WILL!

Couldn't disagree more. One becomes liberal in America simply by going to school, watching TV, listening to pop music and going to the movies. It's in the air. As Dennis Prager puts it, liberalism is America's default position.

To become conservative, you have to question the popular notions. In any given group of people at work or at school, the majority is likely to parrot the lib lines. Cons are often few in number in such groups, or all alone. Takes a little nerve.

Don't have the links handy, but you can google. Political Wrinkles and U S MessageBoard are overwhelmingly conservative. Political Forum and the now-defunct WhistleStopper were overwhelmingly liberal.

USMB I know. And I disagree that it's a con board. You get a little sharper liberal here than there, but other than that...

I'm looking for a good con board, not that I don't like it here. It's just sometimes you want to be among your own, you know?

LMAO it anything its this type of bias, nonsensical, hyperbole that chases people away from one side or another.

by the way in as recent as 2009, conservatives are Single-Largest Ideological Political Group in america, so far for few in number or groups LMAO.

EDIT they have lead for the last 3 years 09,10,11 at least

I'm happy I could bring some mirth to your world, OJ.

I am often stunned that cons can win as often as they do, considering the liberal predominence in the public schools and pop culture.

I watched Walter Cronkite for years and never knew he or many News reporters back then were liberal. They simply didn't comment much on the headline news back then, except on certain weekend shows. Some of the older congressman of those years said "We'd argue on legislature from both sides of the isle all day and then go have drinks and dinner afterwards in the evening. Now he said we don't even see each other outside the Halls." I think there needs to be a push for middle ground (common sense?) that is beyond political idealism.

That you definitely did sir! Thanks!
Your hyperbole was so thick I thought you might even be attempting to be sarcastic.

Your opinion is noted but the fact remains cons out number libs

By your post, I see brainwashing is alive and well. Apparently you don't mind owing your soul to a political establishment who doesn't give a rats ass about you...as a conservative or anything else. You don't see conservatives in Washington begging you to take back your hard earned tax payments do you? You don't see government growing smaller do you?

They have you right where they want most people, regardless of their political affiliations or philosophies. Keep on payin da man, he loves your money. The Kingdom of Washington is an expensive place to keep up...and the serfs need to keep those tax dollars rolling in.

Thanks, Mind. Good to know. I'll be careful. (Though I would have thought you saw that brainwashing was alive and well prior to my post. That was kinda why I posted.)

Cons may vote more than, what shall we call them? "default" libs, but I don't believe we outnumber them in the populace. I am thankful that many of them are inactive politically, civically lazy and generally incurious

You miss the days when Republicans behaved like good little chumps and cons worried about flouride in the water.

I think you are pretty much right about the tendencies that the media, schools, establishment and so forth tend to encourage. I see this in Britain and Australia, to an even greater degree, all the time. But it differs on the issues. On social and cultural issues there the normal ways of thinking these institutions support tend to discourage any sort of traditional and conservative tendencies. This is less so on other issues, like economics.

your "belief" has no impact on the facts, this does nothing to change the FACT that there are more Cons than Libs

This forum is conservative leaning for sure, but unlike other forums I've been on, freedom of speech is relatively more in tact so conservatives don't get a protective firewall from the mods.

But yes, it's definitely more conservative here.

May I ask, OT, what are your thoughts on the question of maintaining the Electoral College vs election of POTUS by popular vote?

No hidden meanings here. Just curious what an independent who believes cons are a majority thinks about this. Thanks in advance.

no you may not ask until you accept this FACT lol
My beliefs play no role in my statement its a fact, at least for the last 3 years anyway.

Perhaps a fear that you are wrong and that socialism is better for the masses - at least ???
Fear not; many of my views are liberal; but I have doubts that this is the best way - at least for now.. I simply am not convinced of either approach - thats why I am an independent.. And if one wishes to be "complete", he must walk among the masses.

No, earthworm, I'm not afraid.

I wonder if you didn't click on the wrong "LuckyDan" post. I think you might be replying to my comment that liberalism is America's default position. That's the only way your suggestion that I fear it makes sense. It's like when homosexuals tell me I might be gay.

In either case, no. I'm a con. And I wouldn't want to live in a world that didn't feature among it's top attractions pretty girls with bouncing boobies and twitching round bottoms.

I despise liberalism, but I don't hate libs. At least not the ones who can't help themelves. Those who have the brainpower to know better . . . that's where it gets prickly.

I'm getting so tired of low-blows like these...

Ted Kasczynski (i.e. the Unabomber), had an IQ of 162. He was pretty smart. We should all become Anarcho-primitivists then! Albert Einstein, on the other hand, had an IQ of between 160 and 180. He might have been even smarter. But guess what: he was a socialist. So now we need to be socialist anarcho-primitivists, in order to correspond to the most intelligent faction of political thinkers. But there is a contradiction here, you see? Anarcho-primitivism is opposed to socialism, by definition. You see the point I am getting at, right?

I'm sorry to tell you this, but intelligence is distributed fairly evenly among the liberal and conservative population. Political leaning has little to do with intelligence. Adopting the view that you are the only one who is right and everybody else is wrong and stupid, is a trait of an ideologue. Comments like these are the kinds of things that reduce the quality of the forum because they make people less open to discussion, and more open to crude insults and flame wars.

Yes, I know, there are more political leans than just conservative/liberal, but I know some have an opinion on this specific question. I'm conducting an experiment. Does it seem to you that there are more liberals (and/or liberal posts) or more conservatives (and/or conservative posts) or is it about equal?

Poll to follow.

Despite the popularity of blogging as a leftist vehicle of rhetoric, DP.com appears (in my view) to be overwhelmingly conservative.

Hello, Justin.

Agree or disagree: The more educated one is, the more liberal one is likely to be.

I don't know. But in actuality, I don't think that it matters.

I believe the more time one spends in America's learning institutions, unless they are rebels and damn smart, the more liberal they will be.

You mentioned a psycho and a physicist, as if they are one and the same. Both smart, yes, but neither representative of the popululace I am talking about. I am concerned with those libs who are above the Jerry Springer watchers, but who cannot see that Chomsky and Zinn are full of ****.

Whether or not Chomsky and Zinn are full of **** is your opinion, not necessarily everybody else's. Kasczynski was not a psycho, considering that he was never declared insane. But whether or not somebody is liberal or conservative has little to do with intelligence. More with upbringing, if you ask me.
