Yes, I know, there are more political leans than just conservative/liberal, but I know some have an opinion on this specific question. I'm conducting an experiment. Does it seem to you that there are more liberals (and/or liberal posts) or more conservatives (and/or conservative posts) or is it about equal?

Poll to follow.

At one time, when we had the stats page, we could look this up. At that time, conservatives outnumberd liberals by a fair margin here. That was quite some time ago, but I suspect that breakdown is still about the same. Can't prove it though.

No need to prove anything. I'm more interested in how it seems to people. There's no right or wrong answer here.

not sure, PURE numbers wise it feels/seems pretty even

extremest wise

I can think of about 2-3 clearly insane or trolling left wing nuts and about 6-7 insane or trolling right wing nuts.

 again not a huge difference since I would never use the extremist to judge the group anyway

Im gonna go with about even

I find it pretty balanced, which is one reason DP does so well.

Seems about even.

It does seem we get little "blooms" of newbies from time to time in clots.

Brief periods where one side or the other is "louder".

There are more people who have been brainwashed by our political culture to believe that they are either liberal or conservative.

Divide -THEY HAVE! Conquer - THEY WILL!

I have been here for some years and while pendulum tends back and forth there is always a pretty even mix.

I would imagine if you are conservative there are more liberals and if your liberal vice versa. Just be happy your in a place where people disagree with you.

DP is pretty balanced compared to some sites I've been on. I knew of two, one now defunct, that are overwhelmingly liberal to the point that even a marginal conservative position on a single issue will be met with a dogpile of dozens of posters, all breathing fire. I know of two that are so overwhelmingly conservative that the slightest "liberal" opinion is met by the same thing.

In most threads, I see a pretty even mix in the number of posters arguing from the "liberal" and "conservative" positions. And then there are folks like me, who have both "liberal" and "conservative" positions, depending upon the issue. That's why I particularly enjoy posting here. Overall, it feels balanced.

I see a method of moderation here that allows for civil debate, which encourages an equal amount to hash it out.

Remember the old, Clinton political description "social liberal and fiscal conservative", I believe that's possible. I wasn't wild about him but he did hand over a balanced budget to Bush. I believe responsibility and freedom of rights can coexist.

Pretty even, with a mix of fascists, communists, liberatarians, and some oddballs with no political leans here and there.
DP's not divided into conservatives and liberals. It's a mixed forum, with other types of people here.

Eh, I would say it's fairly mixed, but with more emphasis on "the Left." Many of the independents, undisclosed, moderates, and so forth are more "left leaning," who are disappointed with "spineless Democrats," desiring less government in social matters, more intervention into fiscal matters, and a cutback on foreign affairs spending and interventions. Much of it is more of a reflection of the party landscape not quite delivering for them.

Being a moderate democrat doesn't make someone liberal, I just don't see everything cut and dry like some others do. As for whom is here and what not, I would think there are indeed more obnoxious conservatives than liberals but there is a decent mix of the two.

I'd be interested in having a look. Can you post some links?

On social issues, except abortion, it is fairly liberal. Or perhaps the conservatives just don't comment much on these issues. On the rest of the issues it seems pretty even, in my opinion.

There are more people of whatever lean an individual is not so that way that individual can feel great about himself or herself for going against the grain, being a true individual, be proud for being an underdog bucking against the system, and casually dismiss any points arguing against his or her position because those arguments are just more of the inane doctrine that was spoon-fed to them and they haven't learned to think for themselves yet.

Depends on the issues of the day. It swings from one side to the other. Overall, pretty balanced.

There may be a balance in members, but in my opinion, the moderators are all liberal. They are always jumping on a conservative, but let quite a bit of baiting slide for liberals. Myself I never report anyone for anything...that's for second graders...you know "ah teacher, Johnny called me a name".

X, I understand you want to see how posters feel, but it would be interesting to compare it to the actual numbers to see if they follow our impressions. Too bad we can't access that information any more.

My question would be "Who posts the most at DP, liberals or conservatives?" I would have to say liberals.

I'd be interested in having a look. Can you post some links?

Don't have the links handy, but you can google. Political Wrinkles and U S MessageBoard are overwhelmingly conservative. Political Forum and the now-defunct WhistleStopper were overwhelmingly liberal.

I think it leans left except during election time where it explodes in a potpourri of everything that is wrong with this country.

not sure how your question is any different?
for example if mostly liberals posted I would think there were mostly liberals here

The brainwashing has made me an independent..Tis fool hearty for a man to go to either extreme; there is no doubt in my little mind that neither work....they have been tried.
IMO, what seems to work is a balance.
Interesting in that its nearly balanced at DP
