None. Which is why I will not be voting for anyone that is currently running.

Waiting on that perfect candidate, eh? Suit yourself, the rest of us will decide for you who your next president will be.

I refer you to here...Link

Just read your position there. I don't feel sorry for anyone not having representation that doesn't bother to vote. If you don't vote, the rest of us decide the election for you.

Its your choice.

I just went through the twelve posts worth of comments in that thread (which include my posts). No where did I see your name.

Sorry, got it confused with another post. See my comments above about your position on voting.

How about post this in that thread so that we don't have to derail this one?

This thread is about voting. What are we derailing?

No, this thread is about "Do you vote". This thread is not about the complexities of voting vs not voting. As such by talking about those complexities we are derailing this thread.

From the OP:

"Curiosity kills - do you vote?

Do you care to explain why or why not?

Isn't the bolded part exactly what we are discussing?

Don't vote? Shut the hell up as far as I am concerned!

None. Which is why I will not be voting for anyone that is currently running.

Remind me again of WHY you care about politics? If you don't wanna do anything but sit around and cry, bitch and moan? Why bother? If you are not gonna vote STFU!

And you explained it right? Lets leave so that others may state thier opinions without cluttering up thier responses with our debate on our views of why a person should or should not vote. ;)

ZZZZZzzzzzzz......

When you learn to not be rude I'll start responding to you again. In the mean time I'll continue as I have been.

You mean claiming you are not gonna reply to me all the while still replying?:2razz:

I make total sense and if you wish to add not replying to me on your not do list? Knock yourself out:2wave:

I only vote in local elections now, not national elections, I leave that blank; no option for that?

I always find this type of comment to be silly. IMO voting for the sake of voting because it is "my duty as a citizen" has led to the mentality of "gotta vote for the lesser of two evils". Sometimes saying nothing is just as effective or more effective than saying something
As much as I detest feeling forced to choose between the "lesser of two evils", I don't want the "greater of two evils" to win, either. I don't automatically disagree that saying nothing is saying something, and I have done that at times, but there are also other times that you need to cut your losses and take what you can get. It sucks, but it is.

Unless you live in a swing state, your vote has absolutely no bearing on who the next president will be. If you are lucky enough to live in a swing state, your vote has a very, very tiny effect on it.

I don't live in a swing state (It hasn't been a swing state in my voting lifetime, although it was one once). Therefore, no matter what I do, the president will be decided by others, and unfortunately, most of them aren't very bright.

There is a very strongly held myth in this country that every vote counts. Nothing could be further from the truth. Almost nobody's vote actually counts.

Yep. It is why I will vote for Stephen Colbert again. My vote will change jack **** in the larger sense of an SC election.

That's what gets me. People are under this delusion that their vote counts, despite all of the evidence proving otherwise. The **** about "If you don't vote, then you are part of the problem" is so astronomically out of touch with reality that it boggles my mind that some people believe it. Believing your vote counts is the real problem. If people copped on to the fact that it's all a dog and pony show, maybe then the problems would actually get fixed.

I voted "Maybe", though it really depends more on the CANDIDATES than the Offices as to how I choose which ones to avoid. I have been known to walk into a voting booth, cast a vote for ONE office, or just on the ballot initiatives, leave the rest of the ballot blank, and be done with it. It does tend to get some interesting looks when you take about 10 seconds to fill out a front & back ballot before heading to the check-out. I have no interest in voting AGAINST anyone, or for anyone who I do not feel is worthy of my vote. It's that simple.

Neither extreme is accurate.

I would phrase it, "If you vote, but don't vote intelligently, you are part of the problem.".

"Intelligently" meaning doing some due diligence and assessing the candidates not only on what they promise (that you agree with), but what they can actually deliver. For example, Paul claims he will cut 5 departments, and Perry wants to make Congress part-time and cut their pay. Neither is going to happen, especially the part-time Congress thing, so to me it's a waste of oxygen for them to even make the claims.

That's valid. To me, voting only what you feel serious about is informed voting. I rarely vote for or against judges because I don't know who these people are. I have left ballot inititaives blank because I didn't have an opinion either way. Nothing wrong with that.

I have voted against someone on occasion, but only in extreme cases where I felt that person would be an absolute travesty.
