Debate Politics doesn't exist in a bubble. It allows any person who posts on the internet to vote in its polls section as a means of attracting interest. We've seen only one white supremicist actuallly comment in this thread with multiple people that are ACTUAL MEMBERS saying otherwise.

If anything, the black eye would be on the OP who chose to do this anonymously rather than showing votes publicly, thus making it impossible to see how many of those votes are done by non-members likely showing your drive my voters and how many were done by actual members, of which we've already had it confirmed only had 1 person voting for that.

Next time I'll make it a public poll then. I was never sure what the purpose of that was before. I honestly had no idea that outside trolls came in to hijack polls.

Pretty much anytime you have a contenious issue ... especially one that has "groups" that are big about it ... you see this happen.

Election votes, gay marriage votes, environmental votes, etc. Typically someone who is a member or a regular lurker here see's it, happens to be a member of a website that is focused on said issue, and so talks to some friends who check out the thread and cast their vote.

Not EVERY non-registered vote tends to be someone following that pattern, but often times it is.
 
I don't really think we need something as extreme as the KKK to remind us that racism, sexism, homophobia, and a long list of other bigotries are still a big problem in this country.

The UN does not define "racism", however it does define "racial discrimination": According to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,

Wow, I'm for free speech, but I must admit that I underestimated the "potential number" of those who might well be white supremacist. That explains a few things.

Captain, you might disagree (as do I) with the 35 people you just deleted, but I wonder if their names were shown on the vote if it'd been the same.

Thanks. I was wondering the same thing myself. I'd bet these same people don't post their racist hate on their real Facebook accounts where their identity is known and they would have to take responsibility for their views.

If they were actual members, I wouldn't have touched the poll. We don't actually know whether this is the work of several posters, or one poster. In the past, I caught one poster doing something like this, sometimes as many as 100 times. I have an admin tool that allows me to see who actually voted in anonymous polls. In this one, before I changed the number, there were 33 anonymous votes for option #4. If I get the chance, I can figure out who it is, if it's one person. It is vauge's intent to keep the Polls section open for non-members to vote in order to encourage these folks to possibly join DP. It was NOT his intent for a group of cowardly racists to "game" a poll so they can improve their obvious lack of self-worth and provide inaccurate information to the membership... or to give the impression to NON-members that this is a racist website.

If the OP of a poll requests me to fact-check the numbers, I will and I will remove "gaming" if necessary.

They weren't. Only TWO active members voted for option #4. And one has a grand total of 3 posts and admitted that he was a white supremacist.
