I think the left has destroyed the real meaning of Christmas and that is very sad.

LOL....oh yes...NP....it is the "left" that is supporting Corporate America to pad their pocketbooks as much as possible. Do you actually believe half of the stuff that you post?

Even still from what I gather from your posts your not the kind of Mother who would allow your kids to hold you at ransom over gifts. I hear a lot of I want and I need where as for me it was thank you and surprise.

Indeed.
I have no clue how Christmas is for others :)

Though my Christmas was more like the movies "Home Alone" or "Christmas Vacation" in setting and timeline the movie "A Christmas Story" with Darrin McGavin, always makes me feel like it's the way Christmas should be. And Charlie Brown's peanuts characters with that theme song.

The reality is.....given the choice, most people who most likely prefer to shop on Friday, rather than Thanksgiving....but they WILL shop on Thanksgiving because the corporate world has moved the sales from Black Friday to Thanksgiving. Given the choice....most workers would prefer not to have to work on Thanksgiving, but if they want their job, they now have to. Sorry....whether you like it or not....it IS corporate greed that is driving this.
People HAVE the choice. Now...given the choice, a good number of people eat turkey then go to the movies. They get on with their lives. And heres an even bigger shocker for you...a good number of those people LIKE to go shopping together, just as a good number of them like to pass out on the couch or sit back and watch football games. The stores are open because people WANT them to be open. You are laughable with your constant eeeeeeevil corporations bull****. :lamo

The workers DON'T have a choice....if they want to keep their jobs. Sorry....but it IS the quest for the almighty dollar by these companies....the greed that is destroying our national customs. I'm sure soon they will start the "After-Christmas" sales on Christmas eve and stay open 72 hours. I do LOVE the fact that watching the news this morning...they were outside KMart and there were only about 10 people in line. I think this is going to come back and bite these companies square in the ass.

The 'workers' have worked jobs on holidays in different careers forever and people like you dont say **** about it. Oh...but let someone like WalMart decide to open for sales...and suddenly you find your voice and rail on about eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil corporations.

So...KMart went out and kicked 10 peoples doors opens and made them get in line today huh? Damn them!!!!

There are certainly some jobs where people HAVE to work on Holidays. There are others where it isn't necessary. There was a time where restaurants were closed on Thanksgiving. Is it really too much to allow us to take one day to give thanks for the blessings that this country has given us? Seriously. I think a lot of people in this country have had it with the corporate encroachment into the traditions of this country.

No one is claiming that KMart forced anyone to come patronize their stores....but Kmart DID force their employees to not be able to spend the day with their families.....and for what? The 10 people waiting in line at 6?
Certainly Kmart will have customers throughout the day, but those customers would have shopped there tomorrow if they hadn't opened today....they are cannibalizing their own sales and creating a lot of bad press for themselves that will cost them more than they will gain.

How? By Starting the black friday sales all day on Thanksgiving....which means that workers, who would normally be able to spend the holiday with their families, now have to work. Its not enough to have black Friday? Now they have to have Black Thanksgiving?

I don't live there anymore so I didn't know that... thanks. I also worked every holiday for well over a decade (Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, Easter, New Years) since I was in Fine Dining so others working on the holidays doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I worked many holidays in the restaurant industry too....and I know that me and almost every one of my co-workers hated all the a-holes that came in on those days. If it wasn't for them....we would have been able to have spent the holidays with our familites. On top of it all....those who came out on the holidays were the worst tippers of them all. I would have rather had all the regular people...than the holiday cockroaches that came out.

We worked in two very different cultures, apparently. ;)
