The world is in turmoil, some say. What do you think we need nowadays? :)

Everything, all at once. The world is like an old growth forest that needs a good forest fire to spark new growth. Burn it all down, and let the survivors decide what to build in its place.

What we need is to take 3 or 4 steps BACKWARDS in time. We need to return to the ideals of the PAST, not the insanity of the PRESENT/FUTURE.

Other

War and revolution will just cause more turmoil, pain and suffering. I doubt the Greeks, Icelanders, Irish etc really want more turmoil. I think the US is already at war in general and has been at war for 10 years, I doubt more war will make things better.

Non-greedy politicians would help greatly. Human compassion instead of human greed across the board would help immensely.

Too bad many people believe such a thing a myth to accomplish though.

Yeah, 545 people are laughin' their asses off at the mere thought.

IMHO We need a voter revolution in America...first targets are far right and far left hyper partisan turds...THROW THEM OUT.
Then re elect reasonable men and women that will work together to make america what it always was again.
Americans need to learn to give and take and UNDERSTAND that not everything is going to be just how they demand it.

I agree with this. Unfortunately, American voter's memories are way too short, and politicians know this and exploit it. We, as a collective group, need to be more pro-active in at least remembering beyond the last speech and promise.

It is difficult to know what we need without first being aware of our purpose and direction; progress requires that we know the why and where of it.

I'm not altogether sure how we go about finding these answers.

Perhaps there are common needs and desires all people share.

Finding out what those are may be of value in determining our purpose and direction of progress.

Finding them may require some real gut-level work.

Geopolitically then, we might come to posit a goal of balancing production and consumption, as such a balance might yield a viscerally pleasant existance for an extended period of planet time.

Then, to reach that goal, we may find that we have to increase production and decrease population.

On a smaller more personal scale, the link in my signature reflects what I need along the same lines.

When the "I deserve" people begin to outnumber the "I produce" people, we're in trouble.

The paradigm shift we need has to include a change towards personal responsibility. No one deserves anything but honesty. If you say you'll pay me for doing something, and I do it, I deserve what you said you'd pay me. That's it. If you don't want to do it, don't do it. The concept is as old as time.

The paradigm shift we need has to include a change towards independence - in our government and in our personal lives. The government can not be all things to all people. Individuals can not be all things for all people. Getting rid of the hold our Federal Government has on our everyday lives would be a great place to start. The closer our money can stay to our home, the more fair our government can be to its citizens.

The world has never been a better place to live in. I've always found it odd when people seem to believe a revolution or other extreme measures will magically save us all when in fact this has nearly always been worse than gradual change. Saying that, if politicians were to adopt not new ideas but ones which made more sense then we'd all no doubt be in an even better place.

# Local war(s) - we have enough

# World war - world wars bring development but I don't think it is the time for this need

# New paradigm (philosophy, religion, economic theory, etc.) - this come due to human relationships and behaviour. It's not a science which can be updated at any time.

# New political system - No

# Else - We need smth new. What new? We need to go to Mars and start a new life. Earth is becoming unpopular.

So where are the so-called 99-percenters? Shouldn't they be chiming in on this one? They're the ones concerned about the well-being of their "fellow man" right?

Don't they already? According to them, they're in the 99% - at least in this nation.

Revolution is too much. It would cause unnecessary turmoil. A paradigm shift is right on point. I think the watchword for changing the world is "sustainability."

This can be applied to many things. Examples: Politics: At this point, politics benefits primarily the wealthy and influential. The common folk (who produce the most for each nation) are largely forgotten and left behind while politicians only have an ear for the moneyed man. This condition can last a while but cannot be sustained indefinitely. It brings us to revolution in Egypt, violence in Greece, and OWS protests. Current political practices are not sustainable. Agriculture: The current industrial practices are robbing the earth of nutrients. The crops will become less and less productive while more and more mouths to feed are born. The current practice is not sustainable. Energy: We use our finite energy sources as though they'll never run out, but they will. Dependence on finite resources is a terrible addiction and that addiction influences conflict on a worldwide scale. This cannot be sustained indefinitely. Energy independence for all countries is the only sustainable solution.

Ask and you will receive, I consider myself to be one of the 99%. We need a voter revolution to level the playing field between the haves and the have nots. Too much of our countries wealth has found it's way into the hands of to few. Like a tree a country needs a strong root system to support the tree's trunk, branches and leaves, without that strong root system the tree cannot survive. United We Stand Diviided we Fall. This country is divided now with ther haves doing every thing they can to deny the have nots an opportunity to move into a healthier financial position. For thirty years the haves have been the beneficiary of laws that enabled them to profit without any real effort without adding any value to the economy

Time and patience.

What we need is to take 3 or 4 steps BACKWARDS in time. We need to return to the ideals of the PAST, not the insanity of the PRESENT/FUTURE.

Romanticism provides a fictional view of the past and a depressed view of the future.

We need a new paradigm, a priority of what's good for the majority of the country rather than just what is good for the most wealthy.
