:D you, sir, have evidently never seen me post under the influence. :D

You can't handle the truth Catawba! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Mr. Catawba? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

until America becomes a Euro socialist mediocracy, the hard lefties are going to bash it

to be perfectly honest, I think they don't want us on the wall anymore. I think they have been so protected for so long, they have forgotten why the wall was built in the first place. like spoiled pets, or Eloi from the Time Machine.

No, not really. I think you're confusing different things. First, it isn't about you personally. Maybe you're nto arrogant. Maybe most in the country are. Maybe not. But wanting to come here doesn't say one way or the other.
How often do people emigrate from their country to another with the express purpose of downgrading their life?

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words:
US-military-bases-2001-03.jpg
We missed a few?

:2razz:

Arrogance is a prerequisite for world leadership.

Rome was arrogant. Britain was arrogant. Is there anyway for a superpower not be arrogant?

Yeah, I would like to see some Euro bases on our border states with mexico to help us for a change. How about a German-Laredo, and British-San Ysidro base to support our border patrol, and a Italian-Miami base. Not only bases, how about navy patrols too, to police the Gulf of Mexico from drug smugglers and so on and so on. Most of the world doesn't have to do **** because of the US about their national defense, yet they question the manner in which we provide it. I guess that picture means that we the good old USA need to rethink what we are doing and take care of our affairs at home, which most won't argue. We need to find the right balance and improve how we do things but that picture doesn't mean we are arrogant. If anything is shows we care and are realists regarding world affairs, and how can we not be with appeasement bull**** doctrines that failed many times over from our superior, well cultured euro-cousins who don't seem to be in a rush to tell us yankees to go home anytime soon.

you think the US still have bases in Europe to protect the Europeans? Lol come on guy...

British empire ended a while ago but all you have to do is put the Zulu DVD in and me and my dad will become arrogant assholes!

No, not anymore. But, I do think there is value in having some bases there as friendly and safe staging areas for other parts of the world. Could probably be less than we have now, though, and still be effective and efficient.

To say Americans are arrogant, isn't saying Americans are bad people. I don't understand why everybody's getting their panties in a wad about it. Americans are arrogant and we've got d@mned good reason to be. Remember as a kid, there was always one guy who strutted his stuff and talked smack...but could back it up? Nobody liked it, but what can you say when he is what he says he is? Yeah, that's us...America. We've got the best economy in the world, the best military in the world, and the best technology in the world. Even though people always gripe about it, we've got the most social and economic mobility in the world. When there's a major environmental disaster in a foreign country, American carriers are on the scene faster than anybody, ready to assist and help save lives. Americans are GREAT people. The American people, separately from our government, the average joe in the American streets, usually contribute more to countries facing disaster than most other country's governments contribute.

Yeah, we're bada**. But not every American is arrogant. Some are as humble as the day is long. More are very correctly and properly "proud." But there is a percentage, a pretty chunky percentage that are arrogant. Yeah it's a criticism, but we can take it, we're a tough people. One of our great strength's is that when we see a problem, we say something about it and we try to fix it. A lot of other countries falter because when they see a problem they hide from it. Americans face it down and punch it dead in the face! Then we say, "What? You want some more?"

What I want my fellow "arrogant" Americans to understand is that we cannot afford to get complacent. Arrogance leads to complacency. And when you're top dog in the world you've got a biga** target on your back. EVERYBODY want's a piece of us. If we get too complacent because of arrogance, somebody's gonna jump in and take a big chunk out of our a** like they did on 9/11. We've got a generation coming up now that thinks because they were born American they "deserve" a hand-out from the government. Well sorry buttheads, you gotta earn it like everybody else did. This is arrogance. There's many other indicators as well.

The average arrogant American needs to understand that poor countries and third-world countries aren't that way because they're all stupid or lazy. When I traveled to Thailand I was blown away because every single person I met was REALLY FREAKIN' SMART AND REALLY FREAKIN' TOUGH! They made most Americans look like amateurs in the game of Capitalism. The reason I point this out is to say...we've got competition out there, and they're gunning for US (as in we). We cannot afford to get complacent because we think we're genetically/culturally/whateverly smarter than everybody else. That's "arrogance." We've got to stay sharp and stay on our toes if we want to remain the biggest, baddest motherf**ker in the valley. We need to remember (and respect) that everybody else out there is smart and tough too.

So how did we get on top when we're no smarter than anybody else? It's partly geography, but mostly it's...'tude. LOTS OF IT! Most every other country has cultural divisions. These divisions tend to fight and work against each other. The USA has similar cultural divisions, but when Americans feel an outside threat, we drop the cultural bulls**t and get to work opening a big 'ol can of whoopa**, with a big can opener called, "attitude." Look at the Tuskegee Airman of ww2. A unit of all African-Americans who, after experiencing prejudice and oppression and belittlement, wanted to fight for the very country that did it to them. They sucked it up and did the job anyway and did it very well. THAT is why we're on top. We drop our differences to fight under one flag. No other country does this like we do.

The Taliban and al-Queda don't understand that about us. They don't know s**t. They think we're arrogant and have no reason to be. They think we're divided just like the Afghani tribesman. But they're wrong. And every JDAM they take straight up the patootie should tell those pansie momma's boys they are going to lose. Watch the f**k out, losers.

I hear it you. It tells the rats exactly when it's safe to come out. Personally, I think it's a trap for the rats. Oh we'll pull out alright, but we'll leave just enough behind so when they come out from hiding under the women's skirts and get into a big gathering...say 'good night' Gracie.

The West is arrogant, but Europe is more arrogant than the US.

you think the US still have bases in Europe to protect the Europeans? Lol come on guy...

Actually yes, I don't think we can leave the euro's to manage their own affairs. We need to "still" be there to project our strength against Russia and new enemies, like Iran and countries that harbor terrorist organizations. Or maybe we could just tell our enemies were sorry for being arrogant and go home?

Truth! You can't handle the truth! - Nice quote Awesome.

True arrogance shows a lack of respect for everyone else. Think about the lack of respect a dictator has for his subjects - genocide, rape, corruption. That's arrogance. Yes, the United States is strong. But, it does not (intentionally) use it's strength for bad. Yes, the rippling consequences of any action can be second guessed and criticized in hindsight, but the U.S. goes out of its way to respect people around the world. Even when the U.S. is confrontational, it is not arrogant.

I think some people who drone on and on about arrogance in America would think that a volunteer firefighter is arrogant because he helps his community by putting out fires and saving lives - that a strong man is arrogant when he steps in to stop a fight - and that the good Samaritan was arrogant because he helped a man in need and paid the innkeeper money to look after him.

Strength and a will to change one's surroundings for the better is not arrogance even if some others disagree with the definition of "better". We are all citizens of the world, and the fact that the U.S. doesn't please everyone isn't suprising. No one pleases everyone - here or abroad.

You want arrogance? Talk to the French! In fact, I consider endless talking with no action a sign of real arrogance - I could point toward academia, media, and politicians who share that trait.

I agree, you can't please the left and apologists who have a disdain for America. Familiarity breeds contempt but we were minding our own business until Europe pulled us into their wars, so they have themselves to blame. They need to direct their heady self righteous trip on their failures. America never said we were applying for sainthood regarding world affairs and no country does, but I guess when you are an idealist you have to find a boogeyman and America is a first target usually...

I know, but I guess the world be rather dull without idealists. They have their place even though they are arrogant.

Unless Liberals get their way it will never happen.

The measure of a persons abilities and the pride they have is in part in their are the ability to overcome obstacles.

One should never give up, and strive for excellence always.

Like the Army used to say be all that you can be, and be proud when you overcome and don't apologize for your success ever.

Other than the liberal silliness (and it is prue silliness), what you say is kind of like saying night time is dark. Can't see any real debate their, so it likely misses what anyone is actually arguing.

Come to think of it, I'm often accused of being arrogant, even by other Americans.

Gee, I must be like.... Captain America or something!

Next time I travel abroad I think I will wear a t-shirt that reads: "F*cking arrogant American prick, and proud of it."

Could be fun. If you're in France you'll just save them the time of having to tell you that.

USA always was, is and will be in war with other part of the world with no main reasons at all. No matter who will be the new president.
USA's racism against black people is erased now but their racism against muslim race is growing up.
Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Libya and many other countries blamed USA for financing "rebels" and creating atrificialy troubles close to civil war pn those countries.
Using tools like CIA and washing people minds with CNN, they got the goal to make the world believe that Gaddaff was harming his own people and that Libyan people didn't wanted him. While at 1 July 2011 - 1.7 million Libyan people went with him at Green Square to protest against NATO air strike.
Attacking Iraq because there were found proofs of chemical weapons by CIA. Chemical weapons that no one ever saw.

however good may seem inside it's borders, outside there USA does a sick and hypochrite job with the rest of world.
American childs are being growed up with the suspicion that Africa and muslim world is a threat for them, that Russia is their enemy, that Japan is their enemy too, that China is an economical threat.

So ... is america arrogant?? - NO. America is becoming an evil.

American dream has gone by years. and that, thnx to it's politicans whom never changed by many ages.
