I am conducting a short survey regarding politics. Feel free to explain your reasoning for your answers.

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.
(Very Well/Well/Poorly/Very Poorly/Don't Know)

I'm excited to debate with you all!

I am conducting a short survey regarding politics. Feel free to explain your reasoning for your answers.

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)!

Too high, but without the illegal immigration it could be manageable. It's still a record for our history.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

Yes. Most anything “illegal” by definition is a problem. Annual estimates range from 10-20 million illegal immigrants annually. We aren’t helping ourselves, and we aren’t helping the world by allowing this to happen. A lifeboat only works until it gets so full it sinks. Better to take some folks safely to shore, and come back and get some more than for everyone to perish.

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

They are a burden to the US. Every illegal immigrant is not a burden, but the sheer number is a burden. The trend is unsustainable.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)

If he/she is paying for the college and living expenses from their own means, then he should be given a visa. If he/she is getting government support or being supported by illegal immigrants, then he/she should be deported (and illegal immigration should be stopped).

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.
(Very Well/Well/Poorly/Very Poorly/Don't Know)

Either: Very Poorly or Don’t Know. I won’t assume that I know everything that’s being done, but I haven’t heard of anything substantial being addressed. He (and his party) seem to think that the soil never gets too saturated to grow crops.

Where's the poll?

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)

Too low. Legal immigration is the easiest way to improve the talent pool of our work force.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

No, at least not at the current levels of illegal immigration.

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

A benefit, at least at the current levels of illegal immigration.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)

Given a visa. And then given a work visa once they graduate.

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.
(Very Well/Well/Poorly/Very Poorly/Don't Know)

Well...mainly because he's simply followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and ignored the issue, instead of pretending like it was a problem that needed to be solved.

just right.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?

Yes

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?

They are a burden to society.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?

Any illegal should be deported. The fact they care going to school is irrelevant.

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.

If you consider the deportation numbers I say better than Bush. Seeing how is trying to push for a back door amnesty I say horrible,

Too low

No, the problem is our immigration laws.
3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?

A benefit
4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?

Given a visa, why deport someone at such a critical stage in their life?

Don't Know

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)

The number of annual legal immigrant numbers has been calculated based upon the ability of the nation to absorb them, available employment and the ability of our services and infrastructure to handle the influx. Therefore, the number as it now stands does not be corrected. BTW, would you please provide a link to your source of the 800,000/year you are claiming. It's my understanding that it's somewhat higher than that.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

Yes.

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

Legal immigrants are of benefit to society. Illegal immigrants are a burden on society

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)

Should be deported. They are here illegally, which means that US taxpayers have been funding their education. It may not be the child's fault; however, it most certainly is the fault of the child's parents.

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.
(Very Well/Well/Poorly/Very Poorly/Don't Know)

About the same as every other administration that ignores the real problems of illegal immigration either pandering for votes or pandering for campaign contributions from corporations wishing to exploit cheap labor.

We should essentially throw open our borders to anyone with at least a college degree. What possible reason is there for keeping skilled workers out of our country? They don't take jobs away from Americans, they tend to CREATE jobs which Americans can work.

I think if we were to enforce the laws on the books the problem would almost evaporate.

We have was to come here legally and illegals should have no rights and get no benefits from our Governments State or Federal.

I also think that anyone on the City Council of a Sanctuary City that does not begin to fallow the Laws will be charged with a Federal Crimes, do time, and be barred for life from public office because they are violating their oaths of office, right now.

We also need to change the Constitution eliminating the anchor baby clause.

This is not about race, it's about the rule of law and the damage being done to the economies of States and the Federal budgets.

If it was about Mexicans we would be ignoring all the others from the Middle East, Europe, Canada, and other places.

Follow the law and I welcome you but come here illegally and I have a problem with it.

I took an Oath to preserve Protect and Defend the Constitution and it did not come with an expiration date on it.

Those Mexicans that do not want to apply for a Green Card (work permit).
Or apply for a American Citizenship, well there is only one thing left.

ILLEGALS ARE CRIMINALS....Nuff Said.

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)

I think it is about right. The U.S. is a large and diverse country and bringing in people legally who have know-how and an ability to work have long been a net benefit to the country.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

Yes, a serious one. It could be managed a lot better. Work visas are one possible solution, but there are logistical issues to be worked out there, especially given the 14th amendment to the Constitution

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

Not such a simple question. They are an enforcement burden, but most illegal immigrants work very hard. Doesn't make it right, but one shouldn't ignore that basic fact, either.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?

No. Deported.

About as poorly as most recent presidents. Very poorly. Going after states like AZ who actually want to enforce existing immigration laws and not going after so-called Sancturary Cities, which openly flout it, is the wrong message to send.

Sanctuary cities don't "openly flout" anything. If the federal government wants to arrest an illegal immigrant here in DC, our city government isn't going to try to stop them. That doesn't mean that we have to cooperate with them or enforce their silly laws.

Amen to that. You're absolutely right.

Why would anyone think local governments would do anything to help enforce Federal law? That's absurd!

It reminds me of an assault I witnessed last month. A guy was getting the tar beat out of him by 3 other guys. The guy getting abused looked kinda weird to me, and, I've always thought weirdos should get pummeled anyway. So I offered to hold their drinks while they beat him senseless. Later that night, the cops tried to tell me I should've called for help, but I told them that I don't have to cooperate with local government or enforce their silly laws. Cops are sooo ridiculous!

States and cities are under no obligation to enforce federal laws unless the federal law in question specifically mandates it (which immigration law does not, to the best of my knowledge). If the feds want to harass immigrants here in DC, they can do it their goddamned selves without the cooperation of our city council. Why should we spend our city's tax dollars fighting something that our voters have determined isn't even a problem? If it's a problem for the federal government, then they can solve it.

Out of curiosity, when and how did voters determine that illegal immigration is not a problem in DC?

We elected a mayor and city council, which appointed a Metro Police Chief who enacted this policy:
April 20, 2007
MPD [Metropolitan Police Department] officers are strictly prohibited from making inquiries into citizenship or residency status for the purpose of determining whether an individual has violated the civil immigration laws or for the purpose of enforcing those laws…the MPD is not in the business of inquiring about the residency status of the people we serve and is not in the business of enforcing civil immigration laws.

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)

Probably about right. We need to be more concerned about the quality of immigrants than the quantity. Give us your engineers, your doctors, your physicists and chemists. Keep you huddled masses, as we already have plenty.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)

Would you think it would be a problem for you if just anyone decided to drop in to your house, uninvited, maybe go through your refrigerator, help themselves to a beer or two, and hang out in your easy chair?

Yes, it's a problem.

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)

A little of both.

When people just sneak in to the country, there's no way of knowing who is here to work and contribute, and who's a drug runner, gang banger or whatever. check my people inviting themselves to your house analogy. It's the same thing: A legal immigrant is a guest. An illegal immigrant is not.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)

Should have to go back to his country of origin and apply for admittance legally. some of the kids have been here since they were small children. Some don't even speak the language of the old country any more.

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.

about as well as every administration since Reagan, whose tenure was worse as they passed an amnesty bill.

I'm excited to debate with you all!

back at you!

We elected a mayor and city council, which appointed a Metro Police Chief who enacted this policy:

So the voters themselves never passed a referendum that illegal immigrants weren't a problem. They simply voted for politicians who appointed a police chief who personally decided that they weren't a problem. Gotcha.

1. Do you think that the number of legal immigrants permitted into the US, which is 800,000 a year, is too high or too low?
(Too high/Too low)
Too low, possibly. Too complex and time-intensive, definitely.

A streamlined legal immigration process would be good, IMO.

2. Do you think illegal immigration is a problem?
(Yes/No)
Yes.

3. Do you think that illegal immigrants are a burden or are of benefit to society?
(They are a burden/They are of benefit)
Some are, some are not. The problem with the illegal part is, while they are all technically criminals (due to the illegal immigration bit), a portion of them are ACTUAL criminals, who would not have made it through a legal immigration process.

Now, seriously doubt that it is possible to stop all illegal immigration at the borders, but I think better border enforcement is part of dealing with this issue.

That, and clear-cut laws at federal, state, and local levels for discovering and dealing with illegal immigrants.

4. Do you feel that an illegal immigrant student who is planning to graduate from college should be given a visa in order to finish college or should be deported?
(Given a visa/Should be deported)
Personally, I think give them a student visa, possibly only if they are paying for college themselves. If it’s on the taxpayer dime (and while that seems improbable, it’s probably happening somewhere), I’d say kick them out or eliminate that source of tuition.

If they’re paying their way, I’d let them finish.

It’s more money into the college (and the economy, probably), and educated persons are always a positive wherever they exist in the world.

Meh, I dunno...

5. Rate how you feel the Obama Administration is handling the issue of immigration.

Very Poorly.

But I didn’t expect better than this, so it’s not really a surprise.

It's happening somewhere. Here, in California. Illegals are now eligible for taxpayer-funded scholarships. For every dollar going to someone here illegally, that's one dollar less going to a legal immigrant or citizen. Disgraceful. :(

Governor Brown Signs Second Half Of California Dream Act | Fox News

SACRAMENTO – Illegal immigrants can now apply for state-funded scholarships and aid at state universities after Gov. Jerry Brown announced Saturday that he has signed the second half of a legislative package focused on such students.

AB131 by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, is the second half of the California Dream Act. Brown signed the first half of the package in July, which approved private scholarships and loans for students who are illegal immigrants.

Under current law, illegal immigrant students who have graduated from a California high school and can prove they're on the path to legalize their immigration status can pay resident tuition rates. The bill would allow these students to apply for state aid.

Not to be an ass, but I should have added the caveat "except perhaps in California"

Nothing's improbable in California...
