In terms of political ideologies, who cannot be a Christian?

They can be Christian but they aren't "true" Christians.

Or so the argument goes.

Perhaps. But the nature of my question is that I have seen people hold the idea that a liberal cannot be a Christian due to their stance on abortion, for example. I am curious about this sort of thinking.

It depends on what one means by "Christian"

Even christians argue about that the term means

Any can be a Christian, but the irony is that the champions of one of those - communism - is probably the ideology closest to what Jesus would espouse today.

He was ostracized by his fellow man, gave away all his possessions, lived meek, kept to a small crowd, and worked manual labor jobs. If that's not a communist...

I recommend not wasting your time.

Is this a serious question?
Anyone with any political ideology can be whatever religion they want to be.

Communist. Part of the Communist credo is atheism. You cannot be a Christian and an Atheist, because being a Christian assumes a belief in God.

You do realize there is such thing as Christian Communism?

Anyone from those ideologies can be a Christian.

Then it's Buddhist. :)

sure they can. Christians have been wrong about those kinds of issues before - slavery, for example.

Being a Christian does not mean that your beliefs regarding politics are automatically infallible or correct on all accounts. Christians are humans, and we can be wrong on political stances and change our political opinions. Having all knowing wisdom and the solutions to every political issue is not necessary.

I will say that I think there are some Christians who live deceived in order to hold certain beliefs, and others who are willfully ignorant of the Bible. However, I still believe that they are Christians. I know hardcore conservative Christians, socialist Christians, moderate Christians and others from many different political backgrounds and I believe that they are Christians in their faith.

What I find interesting, is that Christianity has any connection whatsoever with political systems. They "should" operate independently. Of course they don't, hence we have the term, "Theocracy," but it seems to me the ultimate goals of each are extremely different. One tries to get you into the gates of heaven, the other collects taxes when you pass through the city gates.

Very different.

Just for the sake of clarification, are we all defining "Christian" as someone who accepts Jesus Christ as the Son of God who was crucified, died, and was resurrected on the third day to pay for the sins of the world and to thus save our souls? Is there more to what "Christian" is than this?

That would be "communism" with a small "c." It's like the difference between "democratic" and "Democratic."

There isn't a difference even if you capitalize when it comes to a word that isn't meant to be capitalized. Unless someone is trying to emphasize importance or give a snide connotation like a 'tone'

Why do these threads exist? Jesus said, "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Give unto God what is God's." He didn't care about politics except as they controlled people's relationship with God.

Yes there is. When you capitalize the "D" in "democratic," it refers to the Democratic Party, not to democracy. Same with "republican" and I would say "communist" too. "Communist" with a capital "C," it means the Communist Party.

As long as they believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and the savior of mankind from their sins, then they are christians. Politics doesn't matter.

However, a person who says that he is not a religous Christian, but just believes in the values of Christianity is not a Christian.
