Eric Cantor And Disaster Relief

Do you agree with Eric Cantor that disaster relief must be offset elsewhere?

Yet, that's not true of the population at large now is it. I understand the need to marginalize the tea party by pointing to the politicians from a tactical view. The problem is, the tea party is much larger than the 60 members in Congress, and it's not a party at all. The initial "tea party" wasn't using the word "party" in an political organization sense either.

I think you're missing my point.

Tigger said, "The problem with your theory is that it assumes Democrat=Liberal and Republican=Conservative. That's not necessarily true; especially on the Republican side." While this is technically accurate, the reverse is false as well. Consider:

Seems to me that conservatives are a lot more likely to be Republicans, and it's a left-leaning group in the Democratic party.

That's an interesting graph. It should really drive home to people how much of a minority liberals really are in the political system. Within the Democratic Party they are almost matched by moderates and even when liberals stray from the Democrats, we find that there are more conservatives who are Democrats than there are liberals who are moderates.

There is a lot of faux concern from liberals about the Republican Party being captured by conservatives, when in fact it really is populated by conservatives and the moderate politics of the Republicans is actually a reflection of the party being captured by the small moderate faction. The Democrats on the other hand really are the party that has been captured by the small faction of liberals. This likely explains why Obama's platforms are as popular as a bull in a china shop, the majority of Democrats are not liberal but the leadership is extremely liberal.

Cantor like the other teaparty far righters have painted themselves in a corner...with the RAISE TAXS NEVER on the rich crap...I hope he didnt retract his statement...and I hope its repeated enough times for most of america to hear it.....so they will resoundly reject the teaparty doctrine of protect the rich at all costs...including against people caught in natural disasters that lost their homes and have no place to go....utterly fricken ridiculous.

Now theyve morphed from no one is entitled to Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid...to no one deserves a pension or health benefits from their employers...Public Workers are OVERPAID and need to be stripped of benefits....now its SCREW everyone caught in a natural disaster while we frick around and play politics and clamor we have to PAY FOR IT FIRST...until the last minute then bend over AGAIN like the debt ceiling...
Every time they make a press release the teaparty pushs me further and further away from the republican party...
You liberal, you were never in the Republican Party.

The error in your viewpoint is that Obama is liberal. A liberal would not have continued the Bush wars, or extended the tax cuts for the wealthy, or passed the GOP idea of insurance mandates instead of a single payer system. A liberal would also not have been elected by the moderates and independents in 2008.

Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich are liberals. Obama is a moderate, that is why the liberals in the Democratic party are upset with Obama. Do you think liberals are upset because he is too liberal?

The fact is the Democrat party has not moved to the left, but rather the GOP has moved much further to the right with the influence of the tea party.

Argumentum ad populum. Besides, if I went with that line of reasoning, one could just as easily argue that since the majority of Americans are NOT conservatives, then conservatives are the ones in the minority. (Note the big-tent membership of the Democratic party.)
