I would say that this is one of the most on target posts about the economy that I have seen.
"Big government " - a very relative term; we are a nation with nearly 1/3 of a billion people and land mass greater than Europe......is our government really big ?....And if some tea bagging conservative from the 16th century says our government is too big, I tend NOT to believe him...

You mean the OP was just joking I guess I am just to sensitive when some one refers to my parents in any way that I consider disrespectful. Having respect for my elders must be a generational thing, My mother lives in a house that her and my step father built over 50 years ago she receives a small pension, SS benefits and medicare, she contributes $7000.00 per year in the way of taxes to the community she lives in. Without the income she receives she would be forced to sell her home of over 50 years and move, my mother is 86 and only wants to live out her life in her home.

Apparently dood you not only do not respect those that came before you but you have a reading comprehension or have a difficult time focusing on the facts, President Obama said that would be off the negotiating table including SS in round 2. Some times people hear only what they want to hear I call it selective hearing

When some one writes in a blog about and I quote

First off dood I do not bleat, second off if any one decides to hold me by the of my neck they should take a before picture so they can remember what their fingers looked like before they put them on my neck.

Politicans have been putting their fingers and hands into my SS for years and now some people want to label me and others who worked our entire life as parasites your right dood I don't like the label, when doods like some on this site start disrespectfully labeling seniors as parasites others like the OP think it is OK, it's not OK.

The largest problem with the internet is that it allows some doods to run off at the mouth because so far technology has not found away to allow a user to jump through the screen and have a different more honest face to face discussion.

Because you say that the deficit reduction plan will not effect SS does not make it a fact, the facts will be clearer after the 2nd round of deficit reduction talks, one thing seems clear is that the republicans are only to willing to let the tea baggers dictate the terms of any deal.

One of the reasons that SS is in trouble is that the cuts enjoyed by the rich came at the expense of the SS trust fund, I think that my generation and the generations before me gave enough. Without the sacrifices we made you would be speaking Russian or German or maybe Chinese, maybe your generation should learn to speak Chinese soon China will quit putting english on the product labels of items they export to America

Get real there are lots of ways to reduce the deficit without plundering the benefits owed to the senior citizens of our country, without reducing education, without reducing environmental regs, without reducing programs meant to help the poor and needy of America

Dood...you bleat like a stuck pig. The OP was not MEANT to be directed towards seniors...it was meant as a knock on those that consider able bodied individuals that live their lives on social programs parasites. Reading...its fundaMENTAL. No one...NO ONE in Washington is going to suggest taking away SS benfits. There have been talks on how to enahnce the system. But no one is going to even ATTEMPT to take it. It would be political suicide.

Politicians know that all they have to do is make a few vague threats about how the other side is trying to steal your benefits and they KNOW people like you will start double fisting your gerital and demanding your 'rights'. In an era where both parties blow chunks, they know they dont have much for the voters to get excited about. They make baseless accusations and immediately people like...well...you...are dancing on a string.

A. Teabagging is an offensive term.
B. There are no Tea Party supporters from the 16th Century. It just looks that way to liberals from 1917.
C. Yes. Our government is really big. Our federal government is involved in to many unconstitutional activities some based on the ludicrously poorly definied "General Welfare" clause and some just because they can.

According to TD, children are parasites...

Below is an excerpt from President Obama's speech I want you to note that he said "every thing will be on the table for the second part of the deal, don't be lulled into believing that you or yours are safe, your voice may not be as loud as it was 10 years ago but don't be intimidated into silence, make your voices heard. We now have the greatest weapon we have ever had at our disposal the internet, until these disrespectful malcontents can find a way to jump through your screen they have no way of doing any thing more then calling you names, the facts are that most of them were given to much and never learned to show respect

President Obama's Speech On Debt Agreement

Transcript of President's Speech

Here's what President Obama said in his address to the nation after a deal was reached on the debt ceiling.

That's why the second part of this agreement is so important. It establishes a bipartisan committee of Congress to report back by November with a proposal to further reduce the deficit, which will then be put before the entire Congress for an up or down vote. In this stage,
everything will be on the table
. To hold us all accountable for making these reforms, tough cuts that both parties would find objectionable would automatically go into effect if we don’t act. And over the next few months, I’ll continue to make a detailed case to these lawmakers about why I believe a balanced approach is necessary to finish the job.

Elections are coming again in 2012 vote out the tea baggers and any other party member who thinks that the only way to get our deficit under control is by reducing spending by making cuts to SS, Medicare, education, enviroment,There are plenty of opportunities to balance the budget in other areas. For example let the tax breaks for the rich continue as long as they create employment opportunities for American's in America, remove the incentives for American companies to relocate over seas, add to the import tax paid by any business producing overseas and shipping to America, tax companies that outsource our work, if you don't stand up for yourself and let your voice be heard many of your children and grand children will suffer at the hands of the few filthy rich who are now running our country, don't be taken in by listening to their hyperbole about how if you invest your money privately you will get a greater return on it if our tax dollars had not been used to bail out wall street imagine how many of us would have lost our investments

The tea baggers would have been better named carpet baggers, if there are parasites in our country you need to look no further then the radical fringe party who insults the original tea party by using their name.

As a young man I worked 60 hours a week part time while I attended high school, I worked 80 hours plus in the summer shoveling sand coal and gravel into bags, I joined the US Army at age 17 serving in Korea and Viet Nam, In Viet Nam I was with the 1st Air Calvary, I was in the infantry starting out as a ammo bearer and ending up as a forward observer, I was wounded 3 times before being sent back home on a stretcher, I spent 3 months in a VA hospital and upon my release I was the first Viet Nam combat veteran assigned to a unit of the United States Honor Guard, I draw no Veterans disability checks.

The real enemy we face today is not in Iraq nor is our enemy in Afghanistan, those people pose no real threat to The USA to our country, our real threat is right here in our midst, they are intent on destroying the middle class they start by stealing from the poor and elderly and will eventually steal from you, there greed knows no limits, enough will never be enough for them and eventually they will consume their selves, we can stop them using our voices and our votes. A silent majority will never be heard

A really loud

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!

Depends on how you define work. My family is extremely wealthy and they had untold millions handed to them and they work very hard to maintain it and my father in law was handed millions and he was lazy (he is very intelligent though...) and he has very little left.

well I don't define work as sitting around and watching one's portfolio expand.

So...its Barrack Obama you fear that is coming for your social security? Well...THATS gonna piss off some of your 'likers'...

When someone says 'everything is on the table' (as it SHOULD be) that doesnt mean everything is going to be eliminated. Social Security like EVERY government program MUST be reviewed and updated. Efficiencies must be made. there is a problem with abuses even today with people that are on SS. There certainly should be a review of life expectancy and eligibility. There should be changes made there, gradually so it doesnt effect those that havent prepared. EVERY federal spending program should be reviewed...defense, SS, Medicaid, the government itself as an entity. If THAT is what has your knickers twisted, you are reacting with just the type of fear they expect you to react with.

Aren't lazy parasites better than vigorous and ambitious parasites? Looking at how seniors organize politically, I say calling them "Lazy Parasites" is bunk!

:)

He cant be very intelligent if he pissed away MILLIONs...all you have to do is lock it in and live off it l ike a king forever...

Sure you can, if you are a pot smoking drinker that never had to work and consequently never figured out how to, or the need for, planning. If you live for today, tomorrow is not a concern. Intelligence is irrelevant.

Are you as upset as Earl that Obama is targeting Social Security?

Don't drag me into your personal quabble. I suggest some studies are run and a very light hand is used for any changes. The system has been working for roughly 70 years.

I, for one, do not want it in the hands of Wall Street thieves. I also want to see it insulated from political fools who think they are smarter than everyone else.

I thought you might be a political spin doctor and now I am 90% sure, who do you work for I want to write to them and tell them how good you are. What are you going to do for a job after the 2012 elections, you do realize that 7 years of the Bush era tax cuts did not fuel hiring in the USA so finding a new job is going to be tough. I keep telling unemployed young college grads that Walmart is probably a pretty good bet for long term employment but I wonder what the impact of the new deficit deal is going to have on unemployment numbers, I mean it's hard to believe that we can cut 2.9 trillion dollars from the budget and not see a lot of people lose thier jobs. I will tell you if it wasn't for us seniors who planned for our future by investing our money in SS even Walmart might find thier customer base declining.

I guess I should not worry after all I heard the Repubs claiming that unemployment is caused by the deficit and that employers have been waiting for deficit reduction to start hiring. I can almost hear the jobs that have been moved overseas coming back to America. You know jobs create new revenue so now that we have a deficit reduction plan that will create jobs our economy should be booming in no time at all

I dont think we have to worry about any of it. No one is coming after social security. No one is assaulting it. Even when social security is 'on the table' it will be to review potential for abuse and inefficiencies. Every election cycle the scare out the vote effort fires up again. Frankly...its tiresome...not a little bit embarrassing...and seniors should be tired of it.

Again...the OP had nothing to do with senior citizens.

So are seniors who payed into social security all their lives and now live off of it in old age, lazy good for nothing leftist parasites?

My grandma needs to stop be lazy and living on the taxpayer dime. I don't care she fell and broke her arm, her legs still work. She can deliver mail or something, of course for UPS and NOT the USPS and she better not even think of joining a union. She doesn't need to go from one government teet to the other.

This 'continued attack...please show me where republicans are coming to steal Earls SS. Come on...it cant be that hard to do. Please show me the proposals I and other have made here to steal away old peoples retirement. You cant of course...so instead you bleat off in other directions about war, the evil rich, etc etc etc. They COUNT on people like you. and you NEVER fail to deliver. They toss out these boogeyman (and in the case of the OP, these Boogieman nightmare scenarios and watch their little puppets dance. Pathetic.

Thanks for providing yet more unsubstantiated opinion there Mr. internet guy!

The Ryan plan provides an opt out which reduces the fund that has made SS one our most successful programs, and "The plan, by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), would reduce benefits by gradually raising the retirement age and gradually trimming benefits for the top 70 percent of earners."

"Together, the two provisions would slice initial benefits by about a quarter for middle-income Americans who turn 65 in 2050, according to the analysis."

What gets me is those in favor of privatization of Social Security say the reason for doing so is that the current system is "too" safe and much more money can be made by turning it over to Wall Street. If this is the case, why do they always, usually in the same breath, say that benefits must be cut? According to them turning it over to Wall Street will make money fall out of the sky. And it probably would, for their buddies on the Street, that's why benefits would need to be cut, those guys sure don't work cheap.

It is too big and the laws are too far reaching. Why do you think people moved west, to achieve prosperity without a lot of bull**** from Washington. BTW, if it weren't for tea party conservatives there would have been no debt reduction. Think about that next time, before you say something stupid about those people.

No, the reason for privatizing SS is to allow more choice and to take the money out of the hands of Congress.

No, the reason for privatizing SS is to allow more choice and to take the money out of the hands of Congress.

But take a long hard look at who you would be handing those trillions of dollars to. A long hard look.

So now let's look at one other thing. SS buys T-Bills. This is what puts money in the general fund. If you turn it over to Wall Street then you are also removing trillions from the US operating budget. I couldn't imagine any other single move causing more damage to a weakened and unstable economy.

Many times to find subtle facts you have to peel an onion.

Lets say your right, you are not but just for arguments sake we will. When they cut medicare and medicaid who does it effect? What is the difference of what senior citizens pocket they steal from? Show me any thing they the tea party pit bulls and their republican cohorts have offered to help with the deficit other then cut programs that seniors and the poor depend on. This so called deficit reduction deal will cause more unemployment reducing revenues even further and the pit bulls will try to balance the budget by making more cuts to programs that help the poor and elderly
