Seriously addictive drugs need to be controlled, not outlawed. Outlawing them does not work and causes a myriad of other problems.

Non addictive drugs like pot should simply be legalized, then grown commercially on private land instead of surreptitiously on public land or smuggled from one place to another by gangs and cartels making huge profits to fuel their other illicit activities.

and drug addiction should be treated as a medical problem, not a legal one.

so what if it does? It's not as if prohibition works. If crack was legal, it wouldn't be an easier to get. In fact, I could buy crack easier than alcohol if I was under 21.
 
That a "majority" vote that hemp and marijuana stay illegal is disappointing.
I was wrong to think that we were progressive, rather than repressive(conservative).
We'll try again in another decade. Progress is slow..
And, have no fear, these can be smoked by other fools, NOT this one !

My theory is this:

Any politician who seriously advocated legalization, and had a chance of succeeding would either be thrown out of office by "conservatives" (really authoritarians, but they'll call themselves conservatives), or assassinated by the drug lords.

It's an unholy but powerful alliance.

And, technically, you are incorrect.

It being "allowed" is independent from whether you get caught or not.

We look at things differently then.

As I see it, getting away with something does not mean it's allowed.

Just that you got away with it.

It's still "disallowed".
