Of course not! ;)

I know you're being sarcastic here but wanted to let ya know why I made this poll, which was due to this post by graduate14....

People do not lie to benefit themselves. I couldn't imagine a world if this was true. And your failing at attempting to put words in my mouth. Clearly i acknowledged the possibility of someone lying. As for the reality part, i prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt citizen or non citizen.

I understand there are several reasons for your rejection however i pointed that specific one out for a reason. You can chose to reject or except the statistic. Personally i prefer a statistic over an assumption. Can you provide me with a more accurate statistic? Maybe a statistic with an alternate view or result?

So while I know you're being sarcastic due to the emote I'm not sure if he would realize that you were being sarcastic.

The poll and question is worthless without relevancy.

I'm going to say No, but only so you may find me more trusting later when I need something.

Is the poll aimed at the polers or what they think of others?

Honesty to me is perhaps the most important trait of a person and I regard it highly. I myself do not lie even if it would benefit me.

I love these polls. I'm going to make one about if people like turtles or not.

No!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the real question is do you like turtles?

'Benefit' is a loaded term. It involves contestable points like whether goodness is subjective or innate and whether a person's awareness of the benefits of a behavior is necessary to make it truly beneficial (which can be true or false regardless of whether goodness is subjective or innate).

Different personalities exercise varying degrees of honesty in different situations for different reasons. Some will end up being truthful more often than others. Pretty much the only way to "not lie" is to train yourself to be open minded and to recite information as plainly and objectively as possible.

Generally speaking, people will "lie" without being aware of it simply because it is more entertaining.

You could easily say that all lies are made to benefit the liar. Even those little white lies that are excused and justified are really self serving. Does that dress make your ass look fat? NO. Your ASS makes your ass look fat. Yes...Im sorry...the cat DID die...we didnt take it to aunt Jenny's farm.

We dont want to get in trouble, we want to get laid, we dont want to feel bad. Its all excuse, justification or rationalizing.

That is hard to beleive.

You tell the truth 100% of the time?

If somebody asks you if a dress makes them look fat, are you going to say yes?

Sorry I wrote this before I saw the post above it.

I cannot say that I have never lied in my life but I strive very hard to always tell the truth. In a case such as your example I generally wouldn't give a response if I felt the truth would get me slapped ;).

I think the question is: Do Turtles like People!

I'm not sure at what age people learn to lie, but it works for our politicians...and the electorates who love to lie to themselves...so I guess that it kind of a symbiotic relationship.

Oh, and kids like lie to parents almost daily...especially past the age of about 6. Going into the first grade really makes kids aware of how fruitful lying is.

Then you have - No dad (mom) we'd never send you to a nursing home. Uh huh.
