The star wars prequels were the biggest pieces of ass hair ever made.

Lord of the Rings beats those.

The original star wars trilogy is a work of art, as is LOTR.

Also the OP should be banned for asking such an unfair question :2razz:

People voting for Star Wars should be banned... :2razz:

And if you can't take my comment as joke, then you're probably Star Wars Kid.

Now, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Both are the definition of epic, in their own ways. It often comes down to what mood I'm in, to decide which I like better. LOTR has some of the most epic fight scenes and characters we will ever see, and Star Wars has some of the most amazing concepts and plots twists ever. Right now, though, I just watched the truly epic charges and fight scenes, so I'm going to flip a coin and go with LotR.

Pelennor Fields is my favorite

lol, i love LOTR but i'm a second generation SW kid, and the force is strong with this one :2razz:

For people who believe some other trilogy should enjoy the title, there is the "Other" option.

LOTR win's in my opinion. There could not be a better/closer opponent as Star wars though. I love all the star wars movies and i don't get the stigma against the the first few in the series either, i thought they were really great and they had to live up to the Culture-changing shadow of the first three movies that came out.

Lotr is a lot more intelligent in my opinion and has much more lasting value. It also changed the fantasy genre forever. I think Lotr will last longer then star wars.

The LOTR books kick SW's arse, but the SW movies are better than the LOTR ones.

LoTR trilogy was way too dark for me. I can't stand to sit through that much angst and suffering just to get a few good moments and an ending that was more than predictable, even for someone who has never read the books. There were a couple of really good moments, but definitely not enough to justify between 7-9 hours of my time.

I love the Star Wars movies, 4, 5, and 6. They alternate between ending on a high note and ending on a dark note. And there are some great battles, both personal and in space. Plus, the characters are very enjoyable.

NSFW, but hilarious.

Episodes I-III had TWO good things. Natalie Portman and the fight between Skywalker and Kenobi at the end of III. LOTR beats those.

However, when you put LOTR up against the Trilogy, then it is no question Star Wars is better. The movies alone redefined Sci-fi and the concept of special effects. They truly are masterpieces. But to be fair, the LOTR books was probably one of my favorite series I ever read.

LOTR created an entirely new genre though; the epic. The movies were decades ahead of contemporary works, and their storyline is still intact, something Star Wars sadly cannot claim.

Come on. LotR did not create the fantasy genre, that had long existed. And Star Wars was epic, it pushed the technologies for the time and even today I think it looks pretty damned good (but you can't go with the special addition George Lucas is crazy addition, the original theatrical release of eps 4-6 is the only Star Wars trilogy which exists). No one had seen anything like that in the theaters before, they had to invent the special effects for the movies, it didn't exist back then. Star Wars pushed the envelope on everything and delivered an epic movie and an undying story.

Now if they'd just make the prequels, that would be cool.

Star Wars (OT) is drastically superior to LOTR, by every metric.

LOTRS is winning the poll... :2razz:

Actually the movies weren't all that epic. Some of the battles were cool, but Star Wars redefined Sci-fi. LOTR just added to it.

I tend to think that most men love Star Wars. I know a lot of men who are really into it, but I have never met a woman as obsessed.

You can deny the prequels, but can you deny ... THE HORROR?

The charge of the Rohirrim is one of the most awesome things ever seen on film. That's how I want to die.

When I was a kid we went to the show on Saturday afternoon and watched the old Flash Gordon serials. Same thing.

I also later saw METROPOLIS and Akira Kurosawa films so much of what Lucas put on screen did not redefine anything as much as it just swiped from it.

Lotr basically created the fantasy genre. It revolutionized the fantasy genre more then star wars revolutionized film.

Total influence Lotr has made more. Almost ALL fantasy games/movies/ (most books) / role playing games have direct influences from Lotr.
Star Wars Origins - The Lord of the Rings

EVEN STAR WARS was inspired from Lord of the rings!

"Lucas has often cited The Lord of the Rings as a major influence on Star Wars. "

What i dont understand... is how the light-saber battles absolutely sucked in 4-6, They looked like three years olds trying not to hit each other too hard because it hurts... well choreographed sword-play is definitely not new...even 2000 years ago it wasnt new.

Star Wars hands down. I can identify each of the original 3 SW's by a single line from any part of any of the movies. IE I've got them memorized.

I know...I'm a nerd. :p
