I would totally make out with you for this comment if you weren't lesbian :2razz:

 I don't think that's the first comment of this type I've gotten, haha.

Like I tell all the guys, you could always get a sex change :2razz:

Empire was so good it helped offset any backpedalling they did with Jedi.

The first was fun, but Empire was the best, and the first half of Return. The story was tight with the action.

Star wars 4,5,6 were likely so good because they are primarily Lucas's vision, tied to his career, etc.

I would argue the exact opposite. The prequels were largely the product of Lucas leveraging his legacy to have full control, and they were complete ****

Both are often praised as the best movie trilogies ever made.

I think the LotR is better.

George Lucas, while an incredible world builder, is a downright ****ty screenwriter. I think the prequel trilogy - especially the hackneyed dialogue of the love story between Anakin and Padme that was shoved with a crowbar - proves this.

I think empire is definitely a better film than any from the lotr series

LOTR. The second half of Return of the Jedi wasn't up to the rest of the trilogy.

What the hell are you talking about, the second half of Return of the Jedi IS THE TRILOGY, its the greatest part of it. The Battle of Endor, minus ewoks, and the final confrontation between Luke and Vader, its cinema genius.

You get bonus points for using "hackneyed" in a sentence.

I so agree with the bolded. The scripts was perfunctory.

Sounds like an apples vs oranges kind of thing to me. Having said that, if you were to ask me which I'd rather sit down and watch right now, I'd probably go with LotR for the simple reason that I've seen the Star Wars trilogy so many times I now find it somewhat hard to watch.

could you imagine how epic it would have been with the wookies? Instead the ewoks just make me despise that film

the man with no name trilogy is the correct answer

Star Wars is like my favorite thing ever, although the prequels were retarded.

It's tough to say. LotR books are the top dog, hands down. And without those books, the quintessential popular adventure epic, maybe Star Wars would never have been made. And without Star Wars proving that a special effects-filled adventure epic movie could work, there would probably never have been LotR movies. They're very intertwined.

Consider Luke vs. Frodo. Luke is the perfect prototypical hero. He's fantastic for his narrative role because we get to see him grow up, attain power, and confront evil. Frodo is completely not the prototypical hero. He's you and me, forced into an impossible position. Frodo is fantastic for his narrative role because he is completely unable to compete with the evil he is faced with, and endures, despite the pain and suffering he is forced to go through.

I'm avoiding voting because I really can't choose. I could go on forever...

I am going to agree with the anti-prequel segment of this thread, though. The sticking in of old characters, shoving so much into each frame to create such cluttered visuals, the whiny and childish portrayal of Anakin... The prequels are incredibly juvenile compared to the originals.

I don't get all this hate towards the prequels.

I'd love to see the prequels. They should make them. Though George Lucas should have nothing to do with them as he has grown insane.

On that note, if any of you haven't seen the Plinkett reviews of the first two prequel movies, you've got some time on your hands, and you'd like a good laugh, check them out. Here's part one of the Phantom Menace review. The whole thing's about 45 minutes long:

I wouldn't count out the first half of Jedi, either. It's the one time we really get to see what a Jedi can do. No cgi, limited use of wires... Mark Hamil swordfights like a real person, unlike everyone in the prequels. And his flips are physically possible (at least mostly), unlike the folks in the prequels who can jump 30 straight up. Return of the Jedi's real showcase is, after two full movies, showing us what it really means to be a Jedi, spiritually and physically. It's badass.

This is absolutely true. Natalie Portman, and even Haydn Christensen are capable of portraying love stories. They've done it plenty of times in other films. Anakin acts like a whiny little bitch because that's the way Lucas wrote it. Hell, consider Samuel L. Jackson! The man is made of awesome. Yet why does Mace Windu only seem... kinda cool?

There you go! Ewoks. They so spoiled it for me, every scene in which they appear, I haven't watched the film beyond the point where they show up, in years. I it's just mind numbing to me.

It's not that I don't like Star Wars at all. I do and was a huge fan of the first film and Revenge. Lucas' story telling, it is not in the same league as LOTR.

Of Star Wars? There are no episodes 1-3 in Star Wars. Only 4-6.

There are 9 Star Wars stories. Lucas made 4-6 in the 70's and 80's and then he came back and made 1-3 in the late 90's.

I have to toss in the Alien and Terminator Series into the fray. Terminator 3 was kinda lame, but the other three rival LOTR and Star Wars any day of the week. The first two Aliens were epic as well. Rocky 1 and 6 were good too, it is just that damn two decades in between.

Ya'll niggas is gay BACK TO THE FUTURE!

three words: Slave Girl Outfit.

the end.

LORD OF THE RINGS - they are actually excellent films on many levels. SW was a fun saturday matinee movie - EMPIRE was the best of the bunch - and JEDI was an offensive pandering to kiddies to sell merchandise.

Now, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Both are the definition of epic, in their own ways. It often comes down to what mood I'm in, to decide which I like better. LOTR has some of the most epic fight scenes and characters we will ever see, and Star Wars has some of the most amazing concepts and plots twists ever. Right now, though, I just watched the truly epic charges and fight scenes, so I'm going to flip a coin and go with LotR.
