Lotr basically created the fantasy genre. It revolutionized the fantasy genre more then star wars revolutionized film.

Total influence Lotr has made more. Almost ALL fantasy games/movies/ (most books) / role playing games have direct influences from Lotr.
Star Wars Origins - The Lord of the Rings

EVEN STAR WARS was inspired from Lord of the rings!

He cited the books. Not the movies. Which is what this thread is about...the movies.

This was a tough choice. I adore both of those triologies, and own them on DVD. After much soul-searching, Lord of the Rings wins by a whisker due to its sheer epicness and spectacular effects.

I own all the movies in question, and love them all. However, LOTR is, in my opinion, so far above SW that I was very surprised at the number of people who disagree. However, I have to say, I own the director's cuts of the LOTR, and that may color my view somewhat. But, there is no way for me to view the movies from a fresh standpoint.

You cant claim that the movies does not reflect the material. The material/story is the brilliance in The Lotr movies, much like how it is for the star wars movies.

I never claimed that. But there is more to movies than just the plot lines.

My choice wasn't listed. Though not a "trilogy" the best book ever brought to a screen (tv screen) imo is Lonesome Dove. It had all the tragedies and triumphs, all the psychological thrill a fan could ever want.
I did see the others of course and Star wars I saw at the movies when it first came out. Kinda cheezy. I liked it better when they came out with the next installments. I think the second was the best.
I could watch every Star Trek movie again till me eyes popped
It's time for a new one.
Lord of the Rings wasn't a big thrill cause I never read the books back in the day and by the time the movie came out had already played D&D, Zelda, FF (all of them except 11). I realize I owe Tolkien a debt of gratitude cause it was his books that started all the quest stuff.
So thanks, JR, or JJR, or whomever...
