Do women produce more sales than men? Do they have an advantage? In retail? In B2B? (business to business)

Having sale ability is another matter entirely, and a man who has more sales ability than a woman will still do better. But all other things being equal, a young woman in particular definitely has an edge in my experience.

Depends on too many things --- what's being sold, the people it's being sold to, the "selling style" of the men or women involved...

...and honestly, who cares?

Not really, a woman may not be taken as seriously. They do have an edge in some kind of sales. You are more likely to stop if a woman approaches you on the street than if a man appraches you. If you want people to get a massage or go to the bar, then it is a massive advantage being a woman.

A woman is at a distinct disadvantage as a salesperson, unless you count sex. Undereducated, less professional, and less likely to "relate". Plus one bitch-out on the rag and there goes a client forever.

huh? I totally disagree on everything you said.

Depends on what they look like.

I have a chick working for me, that has a nice set of 36DD's, a bubbly personality, isn't afraid to showoff and she's a very successful sales person. She's worth every nickel of that 5% I give her sexy ass.

Anyone notice how a lot of the pharmaceutical sales reps are incredibly hot women.
Yea, boobies have an advantage.

In medical sales they do very good if they are good looking

But you also see very few car saleswomen.

I have so noticted this every time at the docs. They know how to dress too.

I've done sales and ability is what matters most, but talented and attractive women always seemed to have the best numbers. Particularly when I was doing direct sales. My theory is that the typical guy will always at least listen to what a good looking woman has to say, so they get their "foot in the door" more often and then their sales ability allows them to close it. Also, some women are reluctant to open the door when a strange man comes up to their house, but are less intimidated by a woman approaching their doorstep. So their good looks let them make more full pitches, and their ability let them close it at a high rate like any talented sales person.

I'd consider it neutral if she knows the product well in the US - all crappy salesmen are crappy regardless of gender.

Overseas - anything international - it's definitely a negative. A HUGE negative in countries such as India, Japan, China, Russia, and so on - very negative view of women. In some areas it's completely unacceptable for a female to do business without a male counterpart. Doesn't mean they can't be excellent international salesmen - but they have to play around a bit. I've read many stories where a female would hire a male to be a spokesman - with her acting as an assistant yet still calling all the shots.
