number of democracies taken over by bigoted idiots who scapegoat religious minorities: 1

So far, muslims have a better track record than people like you. Looks like you are the bigger threat.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Pretty sure some of the countries in the Middle East were democracies before the fundamentalist Muslims took power. Even if they weren't, democracy is only coming to those people over their dead bodies. Are they a threat here in the west? No, of course not. That doesn't mean they're not a threat at all.

You do realize that it is those to things which made the US right? Are you willing to abolish the US?

I'm loyal to the State, but my loyalty to the people comes first. We were Americans long before we endeavored to govern ourselves.

don't forget indonesia

might as well try and defame that country too

don't leave it wanting

Any radical fundamentalist ideology, religious or not, with enough power, weapons or numbers can overturn a democracy. As we've seen in the ME this spring, the ideal of democracy, given enough power, weapons and numbers, has been able to overturn a couple of dictatorships, and leave others struggling to survive.

Right now we're seeing both the democracy movement and the radicalized Islamist movement gain power in the ME. Only time will tell if the end results will eventually show who wins, who loses, or if it's a draw.

I don't think there are any that were previously democratic... most middle eastern nations went from being decolonized to complete ****holes.

What is "the Islam" ;)

No, it doesn't. Some followers of it may, but it's a minority, especially in this country.

As to it only being Muslims that oppose democracy, I do believe the one christian State I can think of is set up with essentially an individual political leader

The only serious threats to Western democracy are:

(1) oligarchic cliques consisting of the social elite.

(2) rampant populism and partisanship.

Usually the two go together, with oligarchic cliques manipulating populist and partisan sentiments among the broader population to obtain the authorization to obtain their political goals.

With all these democratic revolutions in the middle east I'dve thought people would think differently.

They aren't 'democratic' revolutions, at least not in the sense Western liberals understand democracy.

These 'revolutions', like the one in Iran, will lead to far worse than what they overthrew. Islam is an imperialist doctrine, far more a political ideology than a religion, it's 'religious' aspects being merely lifted from other religions, mainly Judaism, and rewritten to appeal to Arab racism and expansionism.

It is completely devoid of dynamic internal moral and intellectual reforms, unlike other major religions which have internal moral and philosophical checks and balances; secularism is prima facie impossible under Islam.

The U.S. has never been a liberal democracy. It's always been a corrupt oligarchy, with it's 'government', at all levels, up for sale to the highest bidder, and it's exactly the same as it was 200 years ago, when Hamilton and the Federalists deliberately made it that way, with concessions from Thomas Jefferson, another aristocrat who didn't believe in elections by popular vote.

Nope. Iran overthrew a monarchy.

How do you think the U.S. become a democracy? Freedom is rarely cheap.

How many times have Muslims conquered or overthrown the ruler of a foreign nation in the last 100 years?

Since 1911?

Do you want the entire list?

Define 'foreign nation' for us.

When one can't refute some 1,400 years of history, trolling and baiting is all that is left, obviously.

Utah? ..........

Now where did YOU come from!?!? Whats going on here? All these new people! :scared:

Start your own forum and only let people you know join. This forum seems to invite new people, so your xenophobia is only going to cause you distress. Maybe FreeRepublic is where you need to stay.

Utah? ..........

Actually, Utah's a democratic republic like the rest of us. Hell, if there was any single Christian sect that was going to take over the US and run it like a theocracy I'd pray-- to their god-- that it was the Mormons. Anyone else and I might be in real danger; worst the Mormon's going to do is tax my beer to pay for missionary work overseas. They even do that in a fashion I approve of.

If you know anything about I the Radical Islamic cult you know that they are required to covert of kill all infidels.

It's written in the Quran also transliterated Qur'an, Koran, Qur'ān, Coran, Kuran, and al-Qur'ān.

So the answer is without any doubt and they are on schedule to out populate the reat of the world.

I'm well aware of that. It was merely an attempt at humor. The poster I was responding to didn't name what 'state' he was referring to.

I wouldn't want them as a state religion, though, so I'll pass on supporting their takeover of the U.S.

Funny. Muslims I've dealt with never tried to convert me and they've certainly never attacked me. Can't say the same thing about all the Christians I've dealt with.

Good to know, but what's any of that got to do with democracy?

This 'discussion' is already devolving into a muslim hate thread. But then again that may the the point.
