Every type crime that exists, occurs in America.

That doesn't mean Americans, as a cultural norm, hunt and execute gays.

You found criminals who the public rejects. You did not prove that the general American populace seeks gays out for persecution. You found exceptions, and exceptions only prove rules. You proved my argument for me.

It's not exceptional if it happens daily. And there are places where it happens far less. And here in America, Muslims do it far less as well. Chrisitianity-motivated killings of gays are far more common still in Africa. How many times do we have to go 'round with this?

Basically what this shows is that the more theocratic a society, the more often they kill the marginalized people in their theocracy. What religion it worships doesn't seem to matter much.

Why are many people grossed out by homosexuality?

Ignorance, mostly.

Gay people aren't just about sex, you know. They have diverse, dynamic lives just like everyone else. I think the solution for homophobes is to make friends with a gay person. They are just people being people, like anyone else.

In other words, stop thinking of them as gay people and think of them as people.

Well, I think that depends. I think you have a point, and I think there are certainly people in the LGBT community who very intentionally put their sexuality on the table. But sexuality is also an indication of romantic attraction.

And I also think it's unavoidable. The issue is discrimination, and the discrimination this cause is addressing is discrimination aimed at people of a certain sexuality. In order to fight for their cause, they have to identify the cause.

True, but so much of their promoting their cause seems to be going all, "Hey! Look at ME! I'm GAY GAAAAAAY! Whaddya gonna do about it? Huh? Huh!? You don't like it? YOU DON'T LIKE IIIIT!? SUCK IT BIGOT!

I honestly don't give a **** until they force me to make a decision.

Oscar Wilde said homosexuality is "the love that dare not speak it's name." Someone more recently called it "the love that will not shut it's mouth."

They want acceptance. I don't blame them. I just don't think they can legislate it, try as they might.

Yes it is, because it doesn't happen enough time to represent anything remotely close to ever dreaming of being the majority actions of Christians. Your links do not prove your argument, they only show a few exceptions. You haven't come close to proving your hate-speech against Christians, that we execute gays just as radical Islamists do.

As soon as they stop calling it "gay-rights", or "hate-crime", or "discrimination", that will be possible.

In some parts of the world it's just about as bad. We just won't want their oil, so we don't pay attention.

Also, in most of the developed world, it happens less. Yes, by the standard of what we supposedly call ourselves, it happens a lot.

Did I ever claim it was a majority? Oh wait, I explictely said the opposite. Try again.

Marriage is a legal institution. How else are they supposed to do it, exactly?

True. Honestly, I think hate crime legislation is most useful for simply keep statistics about how often hate crimes occur. The motivational factor of a hate crime can certainly be covered to the degree it needs to be for sentencing by other categories that have nothing to do with hate crimes. Intent, pre-meditated, etc. I don't really think the source of that matters in the sentencing, but it's good for us to know how much it happens.

But that's not what hate crime legislation is. It means additonal punishment based on motivation.

No, it's not. Being a person who is either Lesbian, Gay, Bi, or Transgender doesn't make that all of who you are.

Please.

Star, in my dealings with you, you have been ALL about being a lesbian. C'mon.

Because either A, we are discussing LGBT related topics, and I like to make it personal so that people can think of how it affects actual people, and not some ambiguous group know as "The gays", or B, I've made a joke about it, and well I like to make jokes, and it's a funny topic sometimes. But that is definitely not at the forefront of my personality, or who I am. Not even close.

Ok, but this thread isn't about your total personality or who you are. It's about how people regard homosexuality.

Marriage is a societal invention. Gays can be gay without being married.

Yeah, except if they want to become parents via IVF, the other partner has to spend thousands "adopting" their own child. And they aren't allowed to visit their partners in the hospital. And a laundry list of other things they can't do because they are LEGALLY discriminated against.

It seems like you're offended by being presented with the LEGAL inequality and asked to decide. You take that as flaunting.

And if you think it's offensive for someone to ask you to make a civil rights call, then I can't help but wonder if you don't have a bit of shame in your answer.

It's not legislating acceptance. It is legislating equal rights and treatment under the law.

Opening marriage up to same sex couples is no more forcing people to accept gay couples than opening up marriage to interracial couples was forcing people to accept interracial couples. There are still people now that do not consider interracial couples to be "really" married.

So can straights. I have no problem being straight without being married. However, marriage makes my life easier in countless ways. I couldn't imagine not having access to those things based on the sex of the person that I was agreeing to enter into a marriage with.

As soon as they stop calling it "gay-rights", or "hate-crime", or "discrimination", that will be possible.

As long as there is Equal Protection, it will be called the gay rights movement. Until every last thing is equal between the two demographics of hetero and homosexual. It's just how civil rights movements are. They are self-perpetuating.

As for hate crime legislation... that's a whole other debate and I think you know that.

If they want to become parents they can marry a person of the opposite sex. End of discussion.

Not buying. Sorry.

I'm in what would have been called an interracial marriage not long ago. We're just fine, as are the black-white couples I've known over the years.

Yeah, that's going to lead to a great environment for the kids to grow up in

What do I call that besides intolerance? Really. What else can it be?

If that's where you stand, fine. But there's no objective reason for it. No studies support that. So it's not like it's about the kids.

And what about everything else? Do you simply not mind some people being legally discriminated against?

If they want to become parents they can marry a person of the opposite sex. End of discussion.

Too bad about 10 % so far of this country legally allows same sex couples to get married, and that number is growing. Too bad the courts are in the last couple years unanimous is stating that marriage is a right same sex couples should have. Too bad popular opinion in the country is shifting fairly quickly, with most people now supporting SSM. Your proclamation is failing, miserably.
