Simple enough poll. I wondered how others feel about the like system.

Personally, its kinda useful to see if one is "reaching" people. But I wish there was a like and thanks system.

I give out a lot of likes. If I like something I hit the button.

Problem is, if something is well said, even if I disagree, gets a like.

Funny, gets a like. Puts some knuck in their place, gets a like.

Really useful and insightful, gets a like too.

So its kind of meaningless.

I would prefer being able to like the clever and thank the useful.

I know I must have left my comfort of the sports section.

I like to get "likes". It makes me feel liked, momentarily lifting me from the drab nothingness of my pitiful existance because an anonymous person somewhere in the world liked me enough to give me a meaningful mouseclick. It... chokes me up a bit, brings a tear of gratitude to my eye.

Then again, when I have composed a half-dozen intellectually stimulating, brilliantly-witty posts, then log in to discover only three pitiful likes, I realize that even my friends have abandoned me to wallow in the muck of my deepening despondence and desperate despair.

So, yeah. I like to get "likes." :)

Considering I'm already getting on the nerves of many here, receiving likes is really warming. I'd rather have a "+" and "-" system though. :)

I logged in this morning and found myself with 44 likes, I had an ego orgasm.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other... if you like my post, fine. If you don't like it, fine. I don't post to be liked... I don't formulate a post to be liked, I don't decide on the content of my post with the desire to be liked... I think about my post according to my values and not based on what someone else may like or even with a pre-conceived notion of what others may think I will post... I am just me - love me or hate me - I really don't care...

I guess I'm one of the few that dislikes the like system. It seems that controversial statements don't get likes and so disincentivize their utterance as compared to the same old crap getting posted over and over again. As such, likes don't matter to me that much.

I wish it were possible to opt out of the like system. I don't really care for public opinion. I appreciate if people like my posts but it's ultimately not relevant to anything I think or do.

The "likes" means others share my view on that subject, no more no less. Maybe a follow up poll could identify where the likes come from and are the likes we receive primarily from those who share our political view (Liberal, Conservative, Libertarian, etc.) or are the likes we receive spread out or from the opposite political spectrum.

I post so infrequently that getting a like - makes me pee my pants. Need to put on my depends before I log on from now on - even if the like is a rare happening.

Yeah boy! I really "like" it when 'very conservative', or just 'slightly conservative' people like something that I typed. It's rare, but it has happened. Then I worry that I might be becoming conservative. Then I brood for a while, sing a little Kum-Ba-Yah, and I'm back to normal.

I have also clicked 'Like' on some posts by conservatives. Hey, when you're right, you're right.

On further reflection I think my likes will come less often the longer I am here. I am very conservative in some ways, very lib in others so I’m sure I will manage to piss everyone off at times. Plus I am rather an opinionated SOB! LOL

My wee wee grows....:ssst:

When I get a lot of likes on a post, I look at its structure, details, and tone, and use those to try and improve future ones.

I feel like doing very bad things to them while wearing a bunny suit.

I generally agree with your comment

I note that there are a few people who will thank anyone who say calls me a "poop head" etc. Its almost pavlovian. I judge posts purely on the content.

I think a "WHO"S YOUR DADDY!" would work well...then again maybe not.
