I’m sure DNC would love making everyone vote. That way uninformed uninvolved people who get whatever political views they have from the network news would vote dem. Reps depend on informed voters who pay attention to issues and seek truth, knowledge and facts.

I meant that forcing people to participate in whatever it is doesn't sound good. Today is voting, tomorrow will be health care and mandatory condoms during sexual intercourse and then only God knows what. Where do you draw the line? For me, mandatory voting is beyond, at least in a democratic society.

However, there are a lot of very successful countries not on this list as well -- including Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan ... all of which are democracies and are very successful and prosperous...

Chile is successful. That's why I put them right below Singapore. But they are not a developed country yet, so they are not the most successful country in the world.
 
I think, on one hand, that yes people should be made to vote. This way you TRULY get a feel of what the majority of Americans want, in general. That being said NO they shouldn't be made to vote, if for no other reason than the sheer number of citizens that pay no attention to politics or the records of the candidates and therefore would make ignorant votes.
 
Compulsory vote? Oh, hell no! A significant number of people who claim that they do vote often have no idea who or what they are voting for. Willful ignorance is bad enough as it is in this country.
