I do not want any new nuclear power plants constructed and I do not want the government subsidizing anything with tax payer dollars.

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

Absolutely they should. Energy independence is a national security issue.

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

Yes, of course it should. The public benefits of nuclear power are hard to overstate: Less pollution, less global warming, more safety, a more stable economy, and a more sensible foreign policy.

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

Not a huge fan of energy subsidies.

However, IF we're going to be giving them Nuclear would be my prefered option.

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

No, This is just another attempt by industry to privatize the profits and socialize the losses. They are so risky that no one except the Federal government will insure them.

I voted no. I am for energy independence; however, I don't want the government picking winners and losers. There should be no subsidies.

Wasn't Obama going to subsidize Brazil for their oil?

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

Not subsidize, but rather give initial tax breaks.

Also, streamline the process which certifies a given plant for operation (not reduce safety requirements, just make it easier, faster, and cheaper go through the process of doing so).

In short, reduce startup costs.

I see it as a matter of defense as well. We would be crippled without our power grid.

Re: Should the U.S. government subsidize the construction of nuclear power plants?

I think government subsidizing viable forms of energy infrastructure such as nuke plants is a valid government function.

Government should not subsidize private entities.
