I am neither and I have no use for animals I can't eat. Being polite with my friends' pets is about the extent of my patience.

So I've noticed a casual link in my life between "dog people" being conservative, and "cat people" being liberal. I thought I'd put it up for a vote.

I'm sorry if there isn't something that describes you - I'm just trying to keep it relatively simple to prove or disprove my basic premise.

I'm a cat person, and a liberal. I like dogs well enough, I just prefer cats for myself.

I'm pretty sure I'd come down on the conservative side. But I like to think that I'm not responding to labels/doctrines, but to common sense. Interestingly enough (as far as your poll is concerned), I have a German shepard named Josh and two cats named Bob-Bob and Shorty Pants. I love 'em all.

And, unlike cats, is always glad to see us when we get home.

My cat is posted up in the doorway or on the table overlooking the doorway whenever we come home.

Sometimes he likes to bring his favorite toy and lay it on the rug in front of the door for us.

I don't care for something that slobbers uncontrollably and is all over the place. Dogs are too "in your face" for my liking. If I wanted an animal to get close to my face I would bring it there.

Of course, there is no relationship...I love animals, hate none (but the stink bug...a few human shortcomings are allowed).
As a pet, however, neither cat nor dog, I have not the time, patience, nor money for either.......
Also neither a conservative nor liberal be.....

When's the last time a cat brought you a beer, chased off a burgler, flushed a pheasant, pointed a quail, retrieved a duck or anything of use? But cats make a great mascot if they are wild and purple! EMAW!

I'm sorry, I'm liberal and I prefer dogs, but I voted incorrectly for cats. Sorry to mess up your stats.

It's not that I don't love cats too, but I can take my dogs camping, walking, to the beach...

They are better companion animals for me.

Wow. I have to ask: do you prefer anything at all to anything else?

Cats are just plain ***holes sometimes, a lot of them also have just wacky personalities where you actually feel like you need to take the pet to a psychiatric hospital... Many of them have a case of OCD...

dogs are more intelligent and personable... while i hear a lot of stories on this thread that their cat cuddles with them when their sick and scratches at intruders, thats a dogs freaking job every-day, i have never seen a cat do that (although i do believe you, but i think it is not nearly as common).

If you raise a dog well when they are young it is really one of the most rewarding things i have ever done in my life, they are like freaking angles on earth...

I think both dogs and cats can equally turn out to be attention whores, i've seen both, except maybe a little more common in dogs, but i would argue its easier to get a dog to leave you alone then a cat that is an attention whore. My girlfriend's roomates cat was THE most stubborn piece of crap i have ever seen and got its nasty hair on me every 20 seconds.

Hmmm.. No option for bird lovers??

The biggest dorks in the world.. You should see them play!!

I think most people who's pets talk to them are teabaggers.
Did I write that out loud?

Anyway, conservatives should prefer cats or they are hypocrites. The poll appears to have proven that conservatives are hypocrites. Dog-loving conservatives... how does that work??

And you liberals, with your cats... praising the individual.

Mad world.

Dogs only spaz out if you don't take care of them well. My dog NEVER spazes and easily tolerates people being away for a long time. And, unlike cats, is always glad to see us when we get home.

It happens to be that my cat greets me much like a dog.

The only thing is, I don't need my animal to stroke my "owner" ego ;)

Or at least, she used to be. Now she's a crotchety old lady. Reminds me of my grandma. "I'm old, deal with it!!"

I hear ya! I'm living with a family that has three cats. The boys are two, and the female is 15. I swear to god everything she says sounds like "Meow, dammit!"

Ever seen this one?

That is awsome!! Let's see some flea and tick ridden cat or dog do that!! I taught my cockatiel how to whistle the Marine Corp Hymn.. That bird is hot!! He has more rythm than most people.. lol

Snow Ball is awesome. He may get a little lost when the beat switches, but he makes up for it with his head-banging bows at the end.

I like both dogs and cats, it all depends on the particular breed. But most of all I like chicks. ;)
Likewise, I'm liberal on some things and a conservative on others.

I choose cats because I prefer them over dogs. However I am a bird man, give me a parrot!

We have a dog that we keep in the house and yard. We feed him, take to the vet, bathe him and what have you. We also have thousands of cats that we just let roam around our city. We pet them when they come around.
