I ****ing love it, they put "protein" so they don't offend vegetarians.

These days, with this economy? Lots of people are eating vegetarian in honor of their budget.

not really. if it helps educate people, we are possibly saving money. i can't work up any outrage over this.

Especially when you consider the cost of obesity to the medical system in America.

Ah, I'm guessing the research is included. But nutrition has been researched out the wazoo. Why do we need to keep reinventing the wheel? More fruits and veggies, less sugars and starches. Take a vitamin daily. It's not rocket surgery.

Exactly! We don't need no stinkin teachers - .... oh.

You know - slightly off subject - but I have a serious problem taking any such advise from soemone who doesn't look like they're practiciing what they preach.

maybe I'm snide :)

Gee. Ya think?

What kind of surgical equipment do you need for rocket surgery, and who does it, doctors or mechanics?

It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure this out. I'm quite sure Mellie mixed her metaphors intentionally.

It's not waste of money at all. This is way better than the pyramid, much easier to understand and focuses on the basics. The $2 million include the cost of research, focus groups and the new web site. I really don't see a major issue here. This is a good thing. That old pyramid was not only wrong and confusing, it was also ugly as ****. The whole concept needed a fresh vision. I like what they've come up with.

Why do folks get so upset if Michele "I'm only just now proud of my country" Obama gets any criticism at all?

It's been my experience as a teacher that if a kid doesn't want to eat it, he won't. If you put a plate full of fruits and veggies on a tray for lunch and he only likes apples, he's just going to eat apples. Some kids barely eat anything off their trays. They know their parents will feed them whatever they want when they get home. So I'm not sure what the solution is there...

Some kids may not eat all their breakfast and lunch. But there will be many who will cave into hunger because chances are if they are eating school lunch and breakfast then their parents or parent can not afford to eat at McDonalds or some other fast food place.Seeing how kids eat at school 2 times a day for five days a week and lot of these kids are on the free or reduced price school lunch program then this is the perfect place to get kids to start eating healthy food. They can throw out the pizza, prepackaged foods,Chili, fast food and fried foods that are served in a lot of schools.

I agree that PE should be mandatory for at least 2 times a week. And they need to be taught how to be healthy, not just how to play games.

Why only 2 times a week? When I went to school we did PE/gym class Monday through Friday. Some days we played a sport, some days we ran and or did other exercises. In one of the elementary schools I went to one of the things our Gym/PE teacher liked to do on Fri-days is have us run laps around the gym for 20 minutes and then the rest of the gym time was what was considered free time were we could run through a fun obstacle course all we wanted, play basketball if we wanted or some other fun activity.

Schools with careful planning could arrange the child's classes so that the child has to practically walk from one end of the school to the other or up the stairs to their next classes.

When tax payer funded schools are serving junk food and not mandating PE or anything else to improve the child's health we are not helping. All these food nazis who act as though McDonalds are forcing parents to eat fast food, parents monday-friday feed their kids Micky D's or that somehow you can eat the same amount of calories in healthy food and not be obese should work on the schools seeing how during the school year children eat close to 48% of their meals at school.

If the criticism is legit i'll listen to it.

Most of the criticism I see of her goes along the lines of "she has a big butt and I don't like her clothes"

If you're talking about the criticism on her "weight gain", I don't care if it's Michele or any other woman. It just pisses me off when a woman who is at a healthy weight and obviously fit is called "fat" just because she doesn't look like the anorexic Hollywood beauty standard.

Quoted for truth.

Of course, Sarah Palin's never been criticized unfairly. LOL

Or "she wants big government to control what and how we eat."

Ahh, yeah, because promoting good habits = jack booted thugs stuffing food down one's throat.

Of course, Sarah Palin's never been criticized unfairly. LOL

So your defense of me pointing out that people generally don't have good points about Michelle Obama is to bring up an irrelevant person who has plenty of cause for legitimate criticism? Surely, you can do better than this.

Have you ever heard criticism of her that you thought was legit?

Nope. Not at this point in time. But I'm pretty "Hey, we're all human. I personally wouldn't want to live my life under a magnifying glass. If I ever do, I hope people will extend to me the same level of pardon as I do now."

Why only 2 times a week?

Well, there's only so many hours in a week for school. Not only do you have PE, but you have art, music, library and sometimes health class or some sort of drug-free class that we usually call "specials". There's only so much time for the specials each week. If you had PE every day along with another special it starts to eat away at time for math, reading and science. Schools shouldn't have to do it all. Parents need to be responsible for continuing what they are learning at school whether it be multiplication or fitness.

The thing with Sarah is, she likes to pick fights. If you can't take the heat, get out of the mother****ing kitchen. Michelle's campaign for healthy living doesn't even compare to the bull**** that Sarah Palin spews.

That said, the media should seriously stay away from her family and her kids. I don't approve of that.

I never thought about it, but you are right. Palin does seem to have a habit of picking a fight and then complaining that those mean people are picking on her.

tbh, I'm hard-pressed to think of the last first lady i seriously had a problem with.

I did with Hillary, but only in that I think the wrong spouse was occupying the oval office. :)
