Incest - Good, Bad, Ugly?

...or harmless? Is consensual incest legal? If not, then why is society so morally bigoted? Since it's harmless and consensual, should it not only be legalized, but also given support as a group? Should we mention it in school? Allow ancestral marriages, etc? Should society stop being bigoted and slowly learn to accept it? It's against the Bible? Who cares?

I'm figuring the taboo originally comes from genetics. Children by close incestuous relationships? They're likely to have serious issues.

Brother raised on the east coast by adoptive parents. Sister raised on the west coast by adoptive parents find each other and fall in love. I can understand that. Brother/sister ties are made by virtue of relationship. Kids though? It ought to be illegal to have them, in my opinion.

A brother and sister in the same household....raised together? I think it shows a serious mental disconnect. It's not natural for these platonic relationships to become sexual, so I think it's safe to assume a brother/sister sexual bond is abnormal. Not only abnormal, but should be illegal since it's very possible one is taking advantage of the other. Call DCFS.

Father/daughter? Mother/son? Call the police. Hang the parent by the yard arm. Talk about ruining someone's life...

Here's some information about Illinois' incest laws:

If a person molests a child in Illinois, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

If he molests his own child, he can get probation.

The reason is a special provision in the Illinois criminal code that allows for a lighter sentence if a person commits incest rather than molesting a stranger's child. And it has caught the eye of national children's rights groups and state legislators, who want to put an end to Illinois' incest exception.

Incest is wrong. I could care less if you call me a bigot for wanting incest banned.
 
Incestual relationships are more likely to produce genetically defective offspring. There is a direct risk of harm from them, which is why I can understand the desire to outlaw such relationships. Me personally? I think it's icky and I wouldn't do it. But if the two family members are of-age and both consent?? I guess it's not my business.

Oh brother another one of "these" type thread LOL

1.) good, bad or ugly
- bad in my OPINION but my opinion on this matter certainly isnt for me to push on others or make law

2.) harmless
- well I need more info. Sex between consenting adults? yes harmless. But to my understanding conception is harmful though I admit I do not know the ins and out of this. I know that currently the Amish population is experiencing a large problem with this. Defects and what not.

3.) no group is needed

4.) it was mention in my school when I went and still is today that my daughter goes.

5.) marriage? again see answer 2 if the scientific harm is low its none of my business. Lets not forget incest in the early years of our country was very much more common, not brother and sister mind you but it was much much more common place than today

6.) society doesnt really matter, society doesnt accept alot of things today that are meaningless. Society needs to accept that everyone is different in many ways period.

7.) its against the bible?
well I dont like to guess on such matters, which religions are against it? why was it done quite a bit more frequently in the past than now. And for any religion that started off as TWO people, for example Adam and Eve, incest HAD to happen in adbundancey in the beginning.

I dont "IF" it is in fact unharmful and consensual adults.

you dont even realize that so far you have failed, to my knowledge nobody in this thread that wants it outlawed is FOR gay rights

If you care about the health of your children, you won't sleep with your brother/father, etc. Same with drinking alcohol or smoking while pregnant. If you're beyond the age of getting pregnant it's gross to me, but go for it.

I made no link between homosexuality and incest. Merely the premises that it is harmless, etc.

I clearly understand the genetic reasoning for banning incest but this does not include gay relationships where an offspring is impossible.

Personally I don't care what they do if they are consenting adults. However due to the high likelihood of children with problems I would be against them having children. It would not be fair to the child. But I think it would be near impossible to enforce such laws where incest was legal and offspring of such relations were not. So an all out ban seems the most reasonable solution.

Who cares about the child? We do legion abortions, Baralis. Besides, condoms, etc. And since when do we interfere with people's sex lives?

I care about the children and to me a child's life has higher priority then someones sexual preference. I am not against their sex lives per say, I am against their procreation.
