My father is employed by the Church, but he still pays income taxes. What taxes exactly are Churches exempt from? Church income comes from donations, and if the Church starts some side business I can't find anything that says that business will not pay taxes.

How about we make churches apply for tax exempt status just like any other charity or social organization. Instead of saying, well your a Catholic church so your exempt. Make them show that they are actually a value to the community. Soup kitchens would be valid while member exclusive fitness centers would not.
Charity is part of the overhead of running a church. The problem is, like our social nets, people will and do abuse the non exempt status of churchs and the land they own. Keep the social charities tax free.....tax the rest based on income.

The government should stay out of churches. Keep them tax exempt and don't infringe upon religious freedom by attacking houses of worship.

Thousands of people are suckered into forming over millions of dollars. It's ludicrous that pastors work over the crowds and live lavishly. Ever noticed how a lot of "humble" pastors live? Expensive cars, clothes, suits?

Think about it.

People choose to be stupid. Let them.

To be honest and not being a devil's advocate, I have seen on TV and associated with pastors who have large mansions and "live the good life". If I know of at least 8 of them myself, how many more could there be? Isn't that something to raise your eyebrow to?

They get paid big bucks for speeches, books, TV appearances, etc.

All the pastors I know personally aren't anywhere near rich.
