I am sitting at home, essentially we get to choose our prison for the next month or months. After pondering things I have realized my life work is not essential. I am non-essential. My life will wither away into an abyss of nothingness.

I finally realize how insignificant I am.

Better late than never.

Such is the human condition.

Now what are you going to do in a positive making meaning way about it?

hell, that's every poster on this board. virtually every human who has ever lived.

Plant a garden. In the mean time I apparently am essential. I should be paid more

You're at the threshold of Existentialism. You might want to read Camus' long essay entitled "The Myth of Sisyphus" while housebound; he has some advice for you..

Work is the least essential thing about you or any person...King Solomon knew that...

“The greatest futility!” says the congregator,
“The greatest futility! Everything is futile!”
"What does a person gain from all his hard work
At which he toils under the sun?" Ecclesiastes 1:2,3

He also discovered the one thing that is not futile...a good name with God...

"A good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth." Ecclesiastes 7:1

For me, my work is not the source of how I value myself. I am essential to my wife, and she to me. That is what I consider being essential.

Smile when you say that!!!! :2mad:

Seriously - no one's life/work is significant; to believe so is to embrace an arrogant illusion.

Also, however, no one's life/work is insignificant.

The Temple President in Honolulu always chanted that he was just an insignificant servant.

At the risk of destroying where you are going with this, why do you have to be essential? (Yes, that is a bit of a trick question but plays right into several philosophical concepts.)
