Don't know if anyone has been following the drama, but a few leaders in the skeptic community have wanted to take on the racist pseudoscience of race realism, and was largely shouted down and ostracized. Do these people care more about their youtube video views from "pwning social justice warriors" than they do about taking a principled stand against naziism? I'm thinking I might just become a Buddhist or invent my own religion just so I won't share the atheist label with these hate-enablers. What has happened to Kraut is really disgusting and cranks like Sargon of Akkad are doing nothing but giving false scientific cover to the alt right.

Might I suggest that you spend your time trying to figure out the Truth/Not Truth content of the ideas rather than on identity politics.

Time is short, it is time to prioritize.

You should not assume the members are familiar with this topic, so perhaps some links or background might help?

I found this on Metapedia:

Race realism is the view that biological (genetic) human races exist as opposed to considering races arbitrary social constructs or other forms of race denialism. Critics tend to dislike the term and prefer similar terms such as racialism (not to be confused with racism).

"Today most scientists and historians engaged in the serious study of race do so from either the race-realist or the hermeneutical perspective. On one side, those I have termed race-realists view race as a natural phenomenon to be observed, studied, and explained. They believe human race is a valid biological concept, similar to sub-species or breeds or strains. On the other side, those I term the hermeneusticists view "race" as an epiphenomenon, (like gender as opposed to "sex") a mere social construction, with political and economic forces as the real causal agents. Rather than actually research race, hermeneuticists research those who study race. Alternative and intermediate positions certainly exist, but the most heated debate currently takes place between advocates of those polar positions.

The race-realist approach is empirical and employs a myriad of scientific methodologies, including surveys, social demography, IQ and personality tests, and behavior genetic analyses (e.g. twin studies). The hermeneutical approach relies on textual, historical, and political analysis. The race-realist viewpoint is descriptive, explanatory, and typically avoids prescribing policy. Because the hermeneutical viewpoint sees inexorable links between theory and practice, its writings are often prescriptive and assume an advocacy position. To their opponents, the race-realist approach comes across as cold, detached, and suspect of hiding a "racist" agenda. Hermeneuticists appear to race-realists as muddled, heated, and ideologically committed to an anti-racist activism

The quotation in the above citation is from a Canadian individual named Jean Philippe Rushton (1943-2012), who was apparently an advocate of "race realism."

Jean Philippe Rushton (1943-2012) was a psychology professor at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. His research was into highly controversial areas such as race differences.

The opposition position:

Race denialism is the denial of the existence of (politically sensitive aspects of) human races.

There are several groups of race denialists:

Biological (genetic) races exist but this only affects areas that are not politically sensitive like skin color. Most importantly, race is not connected with any politically sensitive mental characteristics. This was the implicit view of early race denialists (such as early Boasian anthropologists) who found it impossible at this time to completely deny race. A famous example was the declaration "The Race Question".

Biological (genetic) races do not exist but socially constructed races do. This is the view of adherents of critical race theory which is a variant of critical theory (the Frankfurt School). Despite the rejection of biological races, the social constructs may still be seen as very important for reasons such as being involved in racism.

Races do not exist at all.

Now we have some background...go ahead.

Make your own religion. Adonisism. I'll be your first follower.

Translation: If we don't talk about racism and sexism, it'll go away.

"Race realism" is nothing more than the usual racist crap dressed up to try and make it seem acceptable to a larger audience. Nothing they say is true.

A study of world history might help as well.

I call this "shoe box opinion'

In Zen we say that which ever path one takes to get to the mountain top is irrelevant, what matters is getting to the top. But sure, learning history tends to be an important part of getting there for most. Even more important though is learning about people, how we are generally and individually, which BTW is what Trump is great at, which allows him to be highly successful knowing not much history at all.
