Confrontational Christianity

I think this is the reason why a lot of people dislike christianity. They think that they can judge other people the way God judged other people.

You stated the word "scary". Yes it is extremely scary, but He does not save people just because they are different. As a christian, God loves everyone, and He condemns sin which is the work of the devil and not man.

That would only be a small part of the reason to dislike christianity. Judging others is a common trait regardless of religion. We judge people on their political stances as well.

The better reason to dislike christianity is the insanity of it. To use your words which have been echoed by others here, " I have to agree on the bible to majority of these. "

Yet experience shows that neither you or any christian can come up with one good reason to call being gay or a muslim or an atheist a sin other than because a book tells you so.

For me that does not matter as i am lucky enough to live in a country where that kind of thinking is considered amusing as it is irrelevent. But in america which is swamped with superstitious ignorance it does make a difference.

You and the other christian here who deplore violence are in fact really no better than those in the video just not as aggressive. But still pushing the same lies of sins being committed because they do not fit your narrow minded view of life.

That you pretend it is love and compassion that motivate you does nothing to lessen the harm caused by the nonesense of your beliefs and ridiculous morality.

Sorry if that made you upset, but that comment is not for generalization. My post was for Calamity only. I have nothing to offer with you guys, and I don't argue with people when it comes to this because I was also a non-believer before, so I truly understand them. I will not critic anymore of your statements. Have a good life bro.

You know that they are real. Stories from an old book, not so much.

Yup, that I cannot proclaim to you guys. I don't know that they are real, but I just believe on them.

You haven't been here long. Calamity is teasing you.

Why would I do that? He seems polite enough.

Besides, you know my history on this issue enough by now to know I have a unique perspective on spirituality, especially as it pertains to the workings within the human mind---kind of like being an atheist with god benefits.

You are so far the most different non believer whom I ever talk to. You are very accepting to different views. All love bro.
It is good, like what I've said, I was like you before. I had my own theory of my God too, but I think it can't be an imaginary friend if everyone imagined it right? Nevertheless, it does not even matter like what you've said. Faith is something that cannot be scientifically tested, and your definition might be 100% accurate. How I wish we can share insights in person. I enjoy having a conversation with this topic because I believe this is our main goal in life, and it is not about the material success that most people are working for.

Yeah, no problem.

I sort of believe we have to create our own god, although it's probably useful for most people to form some sense of community while doing it. But, in the end, we all really do interpret the idea of god in our own way.

Like an agnostic.

Like an agnostic.

Hard to say if that is what it is or not. My god is certainly not going to be like anything in any book or residing anywhere but in my head. So...I really have no idea what to call it: recognizing the extraordinary power of imagination, perhaps.

Yes absolutely, but there will come a time that everyone will know the truth. It will be too late for us to decide, and this frightens me. We don't know what will happen to us, like which God will declare the final judgment. I guess we cannot change that fact.

I do not know why some people are furious when I talk this kind of stuffs. I don't even claim something nor deplore their views. Possibly because of what the orthodox Christians, who preach in an aggressive way, have done in our world. Sorry zyzygy, I would not like to have an argument with you. We will not prove anything here even if we do this for the rest of our lives. Debates on religion are worthless.

No point in you being here then.

Well, the thread started out with criticizing the insulting preachers who verbally bash people they disagree with over the head. So, I guess it could end by criticizing atheists who do pretty much the same thing. :)

Can I just ask you about your religion? I mean what do you truly believe on?

Well, I have to agree on the bible to majority of these, but I think it is wrong to confront a person this way. The bible did not tell christians to do this. The summary commandment of God is to love Him and love other people regardless of the labels. I think this is the reason why a lot of people dislike christianity. They think that they can judge other people the way God judged other people.

Don't quit your day job, you're a lousy theologian.

No an agnostic means they do not know but lean towards non existence. He would be more of a gnostic which is don't know but lean towards a god existing.

Nope. I am sure it doesn't exist outside of my imagination. So, I'm more or less an "Imaginist."

Ah, a John Lennon disciple.

Probably something like that. I'm just saying, we can reach deep into our minds and, by doing so, talk to "god."

The question is and always will be: what is that "god"?

Then i am correct when i have claimed you are nothing more than a theist pretending to be an atheist.

Nope. Since my god has no effect on the outside world or on others but is, rather, only my own personal god living inside my own head, I see no "theist" in that belief whatsoever. Just the human mind doing what it does best, creating illusions. I am a believer in the power of the mind. That I am for sure.

Aw c'mon, I've seen you sitting on both sides of the fence many times in these forums.

I don't see how I have a choice. I reject religion, but I totally get this god thing...as it pertains to being in our head. We all have that "little friend" stuck inside there.

The key, IMO, is trying to have a healthy friend who gives us sound advice, not one who talks us into doing sick and despicable things. And, therein lies the rub. How do we train ourselves to develop a strong conscience with empathy and love, instead of one which is selfish and full of hate?

So you are saying you believe in the existence of an imaginary non existent god. I fail mto see the difference between you and a theist.

Your failure to see is not my problem. It's pretty clear. Unlike a "theist," I know that my god, as it pertains to anything outside my own head, is not real.

Your failure to distinguish is your problem. I know that the god in your head is not real just as i know any theists god in their head is not real.

I suspect you have no idea what a theist actually is. You make that pretty clear.
