Why I am non-religious

Let's recap what we have so far: I got into a discussion (if you can call it that) about the book of Romans. A while back I had asked someone what it he thought it said. I disagreed, and gave my version, but it wasn't good enough, and I still don't know why. I know what was said, but I don't see how that would have helped anything. (It may interest all of you to know that I have spent 20 years studying that very passage!)

Then some internet tough guy tried to tell me he knew more about the Bible than I do, but he didn't tell me what it was that he thought he knew, instead he started trolling me for information. So I blew him off, because I knew I was being trolled. Then someone asked about the eyewitness reports of the resurrection, and I answered where they were, and later added the book of John. Then I was told that John was not an eyewitness because someone I have never heard of said so. Then I started getting harangued about not answering questions, but I did answer questions, you guys just didn't like the answers.

Now, of course, I am getting the "if the Church said it, it's false" gambit, not to mention the mis-quotes and out and out lies.

I suggest you get back to the subject of the thread.

Ok, I suppose you can guess why I'm not religious. No evidence.

I have searched the thread and can find no explanation. I asked him for the post number but I am still waiting for an answer.

Because he doesn't have one and he's trying to squirm his way out of it. This is no surprise.

I take it personally because I take my religion personally. Ramoss himself takes it personally if someone tries to exegete the OT. Libs take it personally when you say you're against abortion. You apparently are taking it personally that that I am not telling you what you want to hear. We all have our crosses to bear, don't we?

Then you are being irrational, which is no surprise. Insulting the idiotic things you believe is not insulting you. Maybe you ought to reconsider the idiotic things you believe if reality offends you so much. Grow a thicker skin.

That could be the dumbest thing I've read all day. Tell me, how is it that the Church is less qualified to talk about Church history than you?

Because the church is not objective about church matters. They are promoters of a belief system, not objective observers of one.

LOL! You're kidding me.

The Church has an undeniable interest in tailoring its own history to suit its own interests. It cannot possibly be objective or trusted. It has a storyline to maintain and assets to protect.

That you either don't know that or are compelled to turn a blind eye to it is all anyone needs to know.

Matthew 7:6. Still waiting for an interpretation of this. It certainly isn't straightforward.

Calling the things I believe in "idiotic" is pretty insulting. Personally, I find the things that you and many many others in this place idiotic, even insane, but if I say so, I'll get an infraction.

I had one, if you are smart enough to recognize it when you see it, and I wasn't even trying to be subtle.

I suppose they should let you do it for them?

Not believing in imaginary gods is not idiotic.

And this means what to me?

To you it means nothing because you don't want to understand it.

To the rest of us it is the explaination of why zyzygy is not religious. That there is no evidence to support the incredible bits of the bible. (incredable, not credible)

Dead guys don't come back to life. The myth of Jesus is based on earlier myths. There is nothing new in Christianity. As for his behavior it makes me wonder why he joined a discussion site.

I understand just fine, I simply do not buy into his claims any more than he buys into mine.

I would buy into your claims if you could show me some real evidence about the supposed resurrection.

I don't care. If isn't possible for someone else to offend you, you have to take offense. If you are offended, it's your own fault. No one is responsible for your feelings but you. Knock it off.

I ask myself that same question often, but not for the reason you think.
