Sam Harris

Some of his best work is on the "illusion of free will."

That's so funny. I find the whole "free will" conversation monotonous and boring. Whether or not I have free will by various definitions, my every day life seems like I'm making free choices by free will, so why do I care?

They may well just be automatic responses coming from deep within your sub conscience, the result of genetics, upbringing, state of mind, hormones, and pure chance.

One good test is to examine some of your decisions made when angry, tired or hungry and compare them to the decisions made when well rested, calm or happy and with a full belly.

Like I said, I find the discussion incredibly boring. On what you said, I automatically jump to "just cause I'm very hungry and therefor I eat or maybe I make a decision based on my hunger, it doesn't negate that I feel like I have free will. I allowed myself to get that hungry, I chose what to eat etc."

Just that fact that you can choose to be hungry or not is a stroke of incredible luck. Not free will. You could have been born a starving Ethiopian...or been born 200 years ago and had to rely on catching your meal.

As a commentator, philosopher, and scholar, Ben Affleck makes a great movie star.
