Am I the only one who thinks a Billion people worshiping this damned thing is weird?

To each their own I guess. I find it weird that anyone can follow any of the major religions.

What, you think a Billion people staring in awe at this isn't normal?

Yeah to be honest, that's always creeped me out. I grew up Catholic and I remember my dad getting upset that I was watching horror movies because they "might" have a negative influence on me. My smart ass response was "You're worried about me watching horror movies when we have a large cross hanging in the in living room with a dead guy nailed to it?"

Needless to say my mouth was thinking ahead of my brain and I got the belt for blasphemy lol. One of the many reasons I am not a Catholic.

Not only staring, but eating His flesh and drinking His blood too!

Aside from all the blasphamy going on here.

The Bait house is sort of odd but, kissing a meteorite is even stranger;

BTW: Jesus was never accused of being a murderous pedophile.

The cube is the borg.

Zombie God is enough, right?

Not really, considering our ancestors, prior to the modern religions believed some strange stuff.
Nordic mythology, ancestor worship (which is still partially practiced by everyone still), etc.

Yeah, but this one is actually the most "modern" of the big three. Muslim faith being born in something like late 600 AD.

In 600AD most/all of my ancestors were "White Indians" (Northern Europeans/Scandinavians) and believed that a snake held the world together, among other things.

No but effectively Jesus did say "Eat me" :2razz:

Islam seems more archaic than Christianity even though Islam is younger. Christianity seems more archaic than Judaism even though Christianity is younger. An interesting pattern.

In terms of dudes to follow into/through eternity, I think I'd much rather line up behind this guy:

What the hell is that? The All-Spark?

I'm guessing that Clarke and Kubrick had to be thinking of it when they came up with the Monolith.

And, then Led Zepplin took it one step further in Presence.

Pretty well fed.....for a guy wandering throughout India with a food bowl.

I felt a little bad, when one of TA's was telling about the stone, how it represented the sins of mankind,
and when it turned completely black it would be the end of the world.
I don't think he liked my bleach comment, but to be fair, he told some of the worse catholic jokes I ever heard.

Right? I mean come on. Fat. Happy. Laughing. Riding a friggin dragon-turtle on a pile of treasure.

What's not to love.

In Clarke's original short story "The Sentinel" written in 1948 it was a glittering pyramid.

Nobody worships the Kaaba; Muslims use it in a manner similar to how Catholics use the rosary or Christians in general use communion. Needless to say, Catholics do not worship the rosary, nor do Christians in general worship communion.

You're confusing Budai Luohan (the fat guy depicted in the image you were responding to) with Gautama Buddha who is typically portrayed like this:

There are those of us who think that worshiping anything is equally weird. Particularly the great invisable sky daddy fairy.
