Only humans had, have and will believe in gods, from tree spirits, to volcano gods, to sea monsters, to divine intervention, to supernatural abilities, to gods that can help people win a slot machine in a casino and make them rich.

So, when humans or any mammals were not around, for about 200 million years - read that again: 200 million years - during the dinosaur reign on the planet -- until they were all wiped out about 65 million years ago by an asteroid hitting earth and causing a mass extinction -- what were all the gods doing during that 200 million years... just waiting around, twiddling their godly thumbs until that asteroid would kill off the dinosaurs so mammals could evolve to humans and eventually worship them?

edit: if this post should be in Philosophy rather than the Religious forum, please move it if necessary. But my question is for the religious. I hope it's appropriate for this forum.

Playing dinosaurs.

They were doing the same thing they always do, spreading love and joy.

They were creating the necessary conditions for humans to thrive. They created a self-sustaining system so they could spend their days playing xbox instead of being personally involved. Once they'd crafted their system, they destroyed the non-avian dinosaurs so that humans could evolve under ideal conditions so that they could dominate the earth and worship all the gods, letting humans battle it out to see which god is the best.

How should I know? Do I look like I have a time machine?

This question is almost as bad as the one about what there aren't any blueprints lying around for cheetahs and ****.

Cruising around the galaxy, visiting other planets, to impress their more advanced life forms with awesome displays of superpowers.

Thew were busy with their angels of course. When they got bored with them they created us.

They were doing the same thing they are now. If you don't believe me, ask one.

What would your life be like if it didn't bother you so much what people you don't know believe?

Consider that even the best chefs cook things that have prep time and sequences of operations.
Perhaps, the only way to make sentient beings, is to put the ingredients, and wait for the process to complete.
Of course sometimes the cake still falls, and you have to start over!

They were telling the dinosaurs that they need to step up. "You guys have had plenty of time to develop opposable thumbs and higher thinking and if you don't get off your tails, we are going to make some changes around here."

And they did. And here we are.

Right??? And the opposable thumbs and higher thinking have the planet on the verge of anthropogenic collapse. What exactly does higher thinking mean? Could it be even remotely possible that the human element has an ego problem collectively? I will acknowledge that it could be construed as a monumental emdeavor to destroy an entire planet, perhaps even a overt recognition of the mental shortcomings of the species. Food for thought,.

But you wouldn't be here to comment about it, would you?

A fair question to ask both of atheists who make threads like these (I highly doubt the purpose was to debate anything) and of theists who are behind policies such as no atheists allowed in scouts, no employment protection or marriage rights for gays, and forcing kids to worship as instructed on a regular basis

I kind of think one would be less common if not for the other

Easy, just deny the evidence for deep time. Solves all those problems in a stroke :)

I once thought I'd actually found the blueprints for ****. Turns out it was just some used toilet paper; How stupid did I feel.

Your suspicions should have been aroused already on account of it not being blue.

what else could the answer be?

Christians believe that dinosaurs coexisted with humans and went extinct shortly after the flood becuse of the change in climate (and the alligators didn't).
