Can anyone say for certain that they know the origins of the universe?

Nobody on earth could know, there are trillions of unique events that led to the universe being as it is now.

I believe that Earth was a fluke, a unique chain of events.

At least it is good to know you are an expert.

I AM an expert in knowing that I do NOT KNOW what the REALITY of existence is...so I do not include or exclude things like "infinity."

It was my phrase. Sorry you don't like it.

It's not about like or dislike. The statement was nonsensical. Theories don't become laws.

I'll tell him you said so. He could use the chuckle.

Like I said, if he told you that there is a 'road' from theory to law then he is wrong. Only you know if he actually told you this or if you just posted this out of your backside.

If aliens are out there, why haven't we found them yet (fermi paradox)?

great filter theory - every intelligent life form dies off before it can make contact across thousands of light years

earth existed for 6 billion years and humans die off within 100 years of creating radio waves, doesn't leave much of a window

or a modification on rare earth - that a multitude of species exist within a few hundred light years and across the universe, yet intelligent life never develops

or they quickly stop transmitting radio waves and other rudimentary signals that we can pick up on, again, a small window within a small window

or because we've only been searching for such signals in earnest for a few years and the scope of this effort is incredibly limited by technology and funding:

"Tarter explained it this way: if you set the search space equal to the size of the Earth’s oceans, we’ve only examined one glass of water from those oceans for intelligent life. We’ve only looked at one small part of a very large picture."

SETI Scientist Explains Why We Haven’t Found Aliens Yet | TechCrunch

but this is moot, since even a creationist could bumble thru some kind of "god made the aliens after us." The key to evolution is in fact on earth

Nobody on earth could know, there are trillions of unique events that led to the universe being as it is now.

I believe that Earth was a fluke, a unique chain of events.

trillions of events led to the exact arrangement of the universe

but only a handful of events, probably not unique at all, led to life on earth. In fact, these restrictions are becoming exposed as not rare at all. We've already found numerous planets in the 'goldilocks' zone, and many more with moons

and possibly only one event led to the universe origin. Just as we can use certain measurements to estimate the age of the universe, we don't need to know the precise order and arrangement of *every* event that took place since then to unravel what happened at the origin

Dark matter is an invention. It has never been observed. The observed behavior of the universe is not understood. It might be dark matter or it might not be. Dark matter is a suggestion to help explain why the universe behaves as it does.

The effects of dark matter are not an invention however, they are observed. The rotational rate of spiral galaxies and gravitational lensing can not be accounted for by the visible stuff. There is more stuff there which can not be seen. Either that or everything we think we understand about gravity is wrong despite conclusive evidence to the contrary. We don't know what the dark matter is, but something is there distorting spacetime gravitationally. It could even be a population of primordial black holes.

No what is known to exist is the fact that the universe expands at an increasing rate. It might be dark matter. It might not be. Dark matter is not known to exist. I've discussed this with a friend who is a PHD professor of physics at a large university. He, for one, doesn't buy it. He suggests that some physicists use it a way to avoid saying we don't know. But, according to him, we just don't know. It is long road from theory to law.

I think you may be confusing dark matter for dark energy.
Your friend is correct....we don't "know". We theorise according to available evidence.

Theory does not ever become law. A theory can never be proven correct beyond all doubt.

Or more accurately, the laws of physics are incomplete or even wrong. There is no such thing as infinity.

The key word being "thing". How can you explain the value for PI (3.1415******infinite sequence) yet there is no circle which can be precisely described by the relationship PI stands for? Never the less, you can draw a perfectly closed circle....or is it? Something strange is going on. From this logic I can claim that not only does infinity exist, but that everything is infinite. Everything travels at the speed of light. There is only one speed through spacetime...the speed of light. Things which have a characteristic we call mass warp spacetime so that time passes more slowly which produces an illusion that those things are moving more slowly. But for light, no time passes. None at all. Another infinity.
