This video made me lose my appetite. One more atheist youtube channel I will never visit again.

Atheists are supposed to be the advocates of objective evidence and reason. So why do some seem to hostile to anyone who wants to oppose systemic racism, sexism, homophobia, transexualism, and hate? We're going to spread the gospel of evolutionary biology and cosmology but not realities of social science?

And people wonder why atheist rallies are mostly white, with the racism and sexism within the community.

Being an atheist only means you don't believe in the existence of gods. It has nothing to do with thoughts on other subjects.

that an interesting conclusion because I have never met an atheist that was racist or sexist or transphobic. In fact most I know are hugely supportive of any humanitarian cause because they come at an issue logically and see the logic in helping others.

Dark Matter makes some great videos for sure.

Atheism+ is a joke and no one takes it seriously apart from the goons that advocate it.

**** off with your strawman of atheism.

Because many wings of the social justice movement are becoming like a religion.

It's not made to speak against ideas of liberialism.

The point of the video is that judging people by group is bad. And that the God thing makes no sense either. That you can't swap one easy, no thinking, way of reasoning for another and make anything better.

But atheism as a movement is about objective evidence and logic. And objective evidence and logic says that in our society that women, people of color, and LGBT people are marginalized in ways that cis-hetero-white-male-sexual-normative people cannot see on a day-to-day basis. Social justice should be fought for the same way that creationism should be fought and opposed...because truth and logic matters.

Reacting in such a hostile and quarrelsome way to people who do advocate social justice might be even worse than people who are covert racists and sexists and heterosexists. The anti-social justice atheists minimize the experiences of marginalization that marginalized groups possess.

Atheists are supposed to not believe in God. Nothing more, nothing less. I've met many atheists over the years both online and in real life of many different political and social belief systems. My own parents are both atheists and my dad is a pretty staunch conservative and republican while my mother is more liberal on social issues and republican. A lot of atheists I've met are staunch libertarians. Many are staunch liberals.

You are confusing Leftist with atheist.

I think social science is an oxymoron. There isn't anything scientific about social studies. I don't think atheism has anything at all to do with it. I think you are just angry about something.

First of all, every group is marginalized in some way or another or treated unequally in some way or another. Second, logic flows vary and if something is logical or not depends on the origins of the train of thought being invoked. Third, creationism and the fight against it is something that some atheists care about, but others see no reason to bother with. The only thing that is necessary in order to be an atheist is to not believe in the existence of gods.

There are plenty of atheists, myself included, who are very strongly for social justice. Most atheists are more like myself than they are like the people you're describing.

Interesting. Once again I will say to you AtlantaAdonis, I have never encountered such an atheist. I was a Christian and now I am merely spiritual. I have never encountered a Christian that was hostile and quarrelsome about social justice either.

I'm pretty old so I would say, I'm pretty good with those two groups as far as social justice goes. Now when we begin talking about forums well yes there are many phobic people who live on a very narrow plain of existence. Sucks to be them is all I can say. They have a limited understanding of social issues. They are not developmentally socially mature. That used to bother me, now I just shrug and think they haven't been correctly guided and they think they are right. They are not open to new thoughts. Their world is small.

Not my problem.

It seems to me that it isn't social justice that it is being hostile to, but rather 'Social Justice, I know what is better for you do that you do yourself' that is being objected to.

atheism is just a conclusion and it is their claim!!everyone can be atheist!

possibly yes

and sometimes I do look at another and think wow, I know what you should do to help yourself...the thing is, I can offer to give my opinion but if they are not able to receive it, then they aren't... not my issue and I move forward right?

YOu can.. You have to remember the term 'Social Justice Warrior' was a term born of sarcasm and mockery. The entire video was pretty much satire... and in this specific case mocking the people who claim morality from God. I think the video was poorly done... but that intention was pointing out there are people who are authoritarian in the view of morality, and insist on imposing their morality on others. It's one thing to encourage people to act in a way that you think is moral. It is another to use a club to enforce your own viewpoint of morality.

First, you do understand you're demonizing an entire group of people, the exact theme the video argues is bad right? But Christians have been doing that for thousands of years (from the video), so who cares right? An atheist made a through provoking video about SJW out of control, and you hate on atheists...all of them?

OK so I watched like half then skimmed through the last half. Nothing in there seemed all that out of the ordinary, surely not nauseating. It was actually pretty thoughtful and kind of funny at parts.

Certain social rights are important to fight for. But when it inevitably gets carried away and starts harassing those they deem "the privileged/majority, etc.", it becomes simply a feud, a fight, winner takes all, anything goes. <- which is to be avoided, so you don't get carried away..

Are you getting carried away?

OP seems to be confusing atheism with Secular Humanism.

for sure...good points RAMOSS

many atheists are the ones who confuse atheism with secular humanism, they claim believers can not be humanists

Care to point out any of these specific atheists??? Are you sure you are accurately representing their viewpoint? Can you back up your claims?

Atheist fanatics, much like religious fanatics, tend to be rude and obnoxious, judgmental, and practicing of bigotry in their own way.
A majority of such people tend to want to remove the freedom of others in order to promote their own thoughts and philosophies, unable to embrace any compromise (again this goes for ALL fanatics not just the atheist variety).

People who feel they are at "war" tend not to allow themselves to think too much about the casualties of such a war.

As far as your demographic comment, Atheism is still the lesser practiced philosophy and, as such, it stands to reason among minority groups it would be even lesser. I don't think it has anything to do with racism being inherent in atheism.
I do know one militant atheist who is not only racist to a certain degree (by my measure) but also sexist and elitist. But neither religion nor lack of religion creates assholes, they tend to develop those traits through self learning ;)
