And I don't think that too many people doubt that there are many stories in the bible that began as some actual events and people that existed in history. But it is literally the world's longest game of Telephone, and insisting that the stories as they are currently written are actually how the events happened is ludicrous. People can't accurately convey memories of events that happened last week, FFS.
