Ted Cruz: An Atheist 'Isn't Fit To Be' President

Is that really something you hear often? Cause I doubt it.

It is common on internet forums. It happens here regularly.

Obviously, internet atheists don't tend to resemble real world atheists very much (just like internet Christian apologists don't resemble real world Christians very much). But if your exposure to atheism is limited to what you've encountered online, then I can see how you would imagine that this is the way atheists think.

can you give a single example of someone saying religous people can't be doctors or presidents, i doubt theres a single example even from the furthest most extreme atheists saying that.

Sounds more like another paranoid christian fantasy like when they claim "atheists want to murder everyone who beleives in religion"

Muslims start their day on their knees. Is that what it takes to be a good CIC?

muslims cant be a president either

yes they can..... atheists can be the President too.

there's nothing that stops them from being President.. .except for a lack of votes. ( neither group would get many votes right now, or into the foreseeable future)

Atheists on this forum regularly say that simply because you are religious you are unfit to be president or a doctor? Am I just skipping over it? Granted I don't read every thread, but somehow I find it amazing that it's a very regular occurrence and I've never seen it. I'm taking it that when you say it's regular you're saying that you've seen this a handful of times or more?

and except for the propaganda against them

I doubt all the very religious people he was actaully talking to when he said this think it's stupid or ignorant. ;)

Probably not. Ignorance is bliss as they say.

Like people from Louisiana? ;)

For the most part, yes. I didn't realize just how ignorant most people are down here til I took a few trips to California and a few other states up north. It's an eye opening experience honestly.

But there are simpletons that are persuaded by things like this everywhere. Part of the human nature I guess.

I don't think it matters what gods you pray to.

But being totally ignorant of any religious code strikes me as dangerous, although the Muslim code of 72 virgins is more dangerous than nothing at all.

In Freemasonry we have a law that no atheists may join because an atheist cannot take a solemn oath therefore no oath would be binding upon them.

Generally speaking an atheist would most likely be bereft of any moral code other than self promotion like Machiavelli or Nietzsche. That would make them unfit in my view.

I would prefer any Protestant or Catholic myself for any public office which entails an oath to defend and support the Constitution.

An atheist cannot take a solemn oath -- and their ethics are suspect.

The ethics of an atheist president would be suspect?????

And the ethics of theistic presidents (for which we have some substantive data) are not suspect???

I'm hoping you were just kidding here, Riv.

and except for the propaganda against them

you might be right... but I know very little of how things work in Turkey, so i'll take your word for it.

here in America, propaganda doesn't stop anyone from begin President.

Well here in TX we take it for granted that our elected officials at least acknowledge a Creator. Atheists in other states don't affect that opinion.

I will say that I would want my doctor to believe in evolution. Evolution has real life implications in medicine and antibiotic resistant bacteria is proof of evolution. With that said evolution and religion don't conflict. Even the last few popes don't think it conflicts. There are probably a good majority of christian doctors that believe in evolution. Ben carson on the other hand is nutjob and I would not want him to be my doctor.

Almost everything he says is stupid and ignorant.

At least he is consistent.

I think he's one of the brighter in terms of just pure intelligence politicians on the Republican side. But yea, his pandering to the religious, or his very blind religiosity if he's sincere (I doubt it), is quite impressive.

if so why do they keep doing that ?

Right, but you're giving an established reason as to why that point would interfere with his job. You're not saying whole-cloth "religious people are unfit to be doctors".

Though I disagree with you On Dr. Carson. If my son needed brain surgery and he were still practicing and still at the top of his game I would consider myself lucky to have him perform the surgery. Regardless of his views on evolution. I can't imagine a scenario where him thinking the earth is 6000 years old would interfere with him knowing what to cut on the human body.

Many of them probably don't. They're probably just pandering to the electorate. It's just reality. When you look at the number of atheists and agnostics amongst educated people and then the numbers of atheist politicians it just doesn't add up. They are probably telling you what you want to hear. I mean, do you honestly think that every single republican nominee really had god tell them that he want's him to run? Nope. So why did they all say it? Because of the gullible religious people out there.

yeah neither of those are remotely impressive to me. It just makes him identical to every other republican asshole

if he has any intelligence, it's totally wasted
