I have formulated my own modern 10 Commandments, as much based on philosophy as on religion and behavioral science as well. They are:

1 - Keep all the laws of God (Whoever your God is) and Mankind (whatever jurisdiction(s) you live in);

2 - Beware of all organized religion;

3 - Support your government as long as they follow the Constitution (whatever their Constitution is);

4 - Never go anywhere on this Earth unarmed;

5 - Always speak the truth or else remain silent;

6 - Never hit or hurt a woman or a girl;

7 - Stay arm's length from all married women at all times;

8 - Never play with fire except for cooking;

9 - Be careful in traffic whether you are walking, riding a bike, on a motorcycle or in a vehicle.

10 - Leave the world a better, cleaner place than you found it.

Has anyone else also come up with their own personal law code?

1) Dance like nobody's watching

2) I'd buy that for a dollar

3) Hit me baby, one more time

4) Never tell me the odds!

5) Just do it

6) Paul is dead

7) Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

8) Slower traffic merge right

9) Keep on rockin' in the free world.

10) Be excellent to one another

No women and atheists?

Don't get caught.

Yup that is the European 11th Commandment as described by my cousin who lives over there.

No women and atheists?

I did not feel a need to pick on women or atheists.

My father taught me the rule about not hitting girls or women -- he was a great example of respect for womanhood.

I live in a state (California) which is very secular and therefore atheism and religion virtually never come up as an issue.

Several Christian churches (meaning any association with Christ whatever not only Protestants calling themselves Christian) supported a ballot measure for marriage between one man and one woman, but it was overturned in the courts. The ballot measure smacked as a violation of the Federal 1st Amendment, however the recent SCOTUS ruling relied on the 14th Amendment instead.

Yes. Why should people respect and obey their national Constitutions implicitly?

Well, that is a good question.

I suppose at the most fundamental level, one could ask, why should anyone obey and support any government at all?

The answer to that is that it can get you into a lot of trouble if you do not.

That then leads to the question, why oppose your government when it has transgressed its own constitution?

The answer is because now your government has taken a giant step towards tyranny.

If you want to live in a tyranny there are several in existence available -- North Korea and China are the two most obvious choices.

The constitutions of these states are not really constitutions, they are simply warrants allowing tyranny.

Gun confiscation in New Orleans after Katrina was clearly unconstitutional and tyrannical. But everyone was afraid to openly oppose it.

I would think open opposition are clearly warranted and critical to freedom.

Yay.

And add two more

11) give me patience with own dumbness so I may bear the stupidity of others more easily, otherwise shoot 'em:mrgreen:

12) Thou shalt not blather.

The amendments include most of these:

The best 10 commandment list ever, courtesy of Christopher Hitchens:

Those are good too, yes. They are a bit focused though and not exactly relevant to everyone.

My own are a bit more fundamental and specific to myself and my space around my person.
