What Would It take To Change Your Mind? [W:111]

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

Evidence.

If evidence was presented to me that explained any supernatural phenomenon to the point that being skeptical was unreasonable I would accept it and change my mind. I am equally skeptical of any such claims and any other extraordinary claims in the absence of evidence. I default to skeptical just as I do for Flying Pink Unicorns, Santa Claus and Faeries.

What would change your mind from your current position?

I asked that of the climate change adherents. I got the reply that they wanted their priests of green to tell them that it was all over. But when one of the climate change supporting scientists says that it is not a problem or whatever they call that scientist a denier and re-affirm their faith.

Religion takes lots of forms.

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

I still don't see any evidence for abiogenesis. So quit beating around the bush and show me the hard evidence that it happened.

I have shown you process which do the beginnings of it in the lab. You say that is not evidence. It is evidence that that is how carbon chemistry works.

There will never be found a fossil of the first living thing on the Earth because it did not leave a fossil. It has been eaten by a chemical that worked better than it.

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

Emotions. If I made decisions based on irrational things like love and empathy then I would probably have a lot of different opinions, judging from the general population.

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

Well, one can't if it's a personal event, that's what makes it what it is. The resurrection however is not that sort of personal event. The resurrection only speaks to an after life. But Jesus' body being gone does not mean that sat up, stood up and then was lifted into the clouds. That is only taken on faith.

I wasn't there but, wholly believe Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected. I also believe he will return.

There were witnesses who Jesus met with AFTER his death and resurrection.

Evidence that it is possible? Or that it happened in Earth's past? Or that it happened somewhere in the universe?

Scientists have built what could best be called a virus out of amino acids that was capable of self-replication, and they are working towards higher forms of synthetic life. So we're pretty sure there's no "magic ingredient" that makes something become alive, which means abiogenesis is possible. Whether it already happened in the past with us as the result is somewhat harder to prove.

What you presented was an attempt, by INTELLIGENT DESIGN, trying to show how life MIGHT HAVE STARTED. That's all you had.

Trying to construct life by INTELLIGENT DESIGN in a laboratory is a far different thing than life randomly appearing in swamp slime.

He's a tad late.

Matthew
Jesus tells his disciples that he will return before they can "go over the cities of Israel." Later (24:14) he says he will not come until the gospel is preached throughout the world. Well, his disciples went over the cities of Israel and then died waiting for the "return of the Lord." Now, nearly 2000 years later, and long after the gospel had been preached throughout the world, his followers still wait. 10:23

Tsk tsk....

Christ already appeared / came back during his resurrection.

He'll be coming again later for you and yours, though I don't think you'll like it. -:

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

OK, so you have nothing but the usual blather.

Deny deny deny, tuck tail and run. That's all you ever do.

I have no problem with what you believe. The question is - do you consider those who do not believe to that letter as you do, to be less than you in any manner?

Adam's relics will never be found either. Logicman can't talk about that.

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

First hand experience was what changed my mind... better than any evidence you might find in some book somewhere.

Matt. 24:36; Mark 13:32

(Mark 13:30-32), "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 32 But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone,"

(Matt. 24:36), "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."

You didn't read far enough.

No, but [as you know] I don't have a problem telling you you're screwing up. ;)

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

You believe that abiogenesis occurred? Where's your evidence for that?

Moderator's Warning:
This thread isn't about abiogensis. NO ONE mentioned it until you brought it up as a strawman in this post and then began to demand people provide evidence for something no one in the thread had mentioned.

If another poster actually claims to believe abiogensis and states such a belief in a fashion that relates to the topic at hand, then by all means ask them for evidence. However, if you continue to attempt to derail the thread by demanding evidence for a strawman of your own creation you will be thread banned

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

The birth cycle is the cycle of birth-death-rebirth in which parts of our souls are reborn again in our family lines, building upon our luck. The gift-cycle is the act of giving gifts back and forth between friends, family, and allies-- and especially the gods-- that builds our luck. They are central to my faith, which is about building the luck of our families and communities by observing and respecting these cycles.

And "wights" are any kind of spirit, up to and including the gods themselves.

In your opinion. Where is the proof that I can peruse?

You want evidence for the supernatural?

Here, miracles are now documented.

I can't offer proof. You can either accept my opinion or not-- I think it would make your life better if you did, but it's your life and your business.

I think it would make your life better if you based your opinions on proof.

You know nothing about my life.

Re: What Would It take To Change Your Mind?

You know nothing about my life.

And I offer no judgments on it. I think everyone's life would be better with Asatru, but if you're happy with your life and with your family, you're obviously doing something right.

Sounds like letters from an overturned Scrabble board.
