what do you say about this quote cited from another site?they were asked what kind of God would be their ideal god

'The problem is... "God" can't exist. There is no way that some being could be somewhere, forever, with no beginning or end, or food source, capable of controlling everything... I could go on, but it's sufficient to say, the idea of god is ridiculous, if you really think about it.

I think that his opinion is valid, if taken from a strictly physical existence point of view. My own concept is not one of physical existence, though, but rather a mental and emotional concept. I tend to suspect that people who cannot conceive of the existence of God, tend to be much more rational and intellectual thinkers, and don't have as much capacity for creative and imaginative viewpoints, or the understanding of how a belief can be beneficial. Others cannot think in highly rational terms, and tend to rely heavily on their belief systems as their main support. Some of us are capable of both, rather than just one of the other type of seeing and perceiving the world around us. Either way, it makes no difference to me. To each his own.

The concept of a God does two main things: it explains creation (and other virtually unexplainable things) and it assigns a higher power/authority over any human (no matter what any partiicularly important human may claim as their title/power) as the ultimate rule maker. Things get complicated when humans claim to know what God really wants and then insist that they get a cut of it.

Explains? Goddidit is not much of an explanation.

Neither is "because I said so" but it does tend to end the discussion as many parents and bosses will attest. ;)

On the other hand, 'I don't know, let's see if we can find out' is a perfectly acceptable answer.

Well, before I answer that. I need to know something.

What do you mean when you say 'GOD'?? What is God? If you say 'God is spirit', what do you mean by 'Spirit'?

Actually an eternal flame of constant energy would suffice to explain what lies behind all of existence.

So long as you have no other immediate plans - which is rarely the case with many bosses. ;)

Or, you make looking for the answer your job, and get paid doing it!

What does that mean?

whatever you want it to mean?

To me it means a fundamental force, probably consisting of pure of energy, which we have not yet defined.

What kind of energy?

Why are you asking other people what they believe about God when you refuse to answer the question yourself? You keep running from the question.

Do you believe there is a God?

Are you ashamed of the divine / God?

Depends on how you define "god."

Are you ashamed of the divine / God?
I suspect that if there is a god, it's not exactly divine.

we call it GOD.

He does seem to enjoy a ringside seat.

Perhaps it has to happen? Why do we have herbivores? You know that in nature...when something dies...it is used. Herbivores eat plants, carnivores keep them from eating all the plants. Human's main predator is what? Something had to fill the gap for the dead saber cats.

We? I thought that some god or other was supposed to have created them.

Oh. You are going for technicalities even though you are fully aware that my incredibly simple statement meant us earthlings have herbivores? But I SUPPOSE if we are going to play THIS silly little game:

Humans are the stewards of the Earth according to my faith. Ergo they were created FOR us.

Ps

I never said humans created them.
