Calling Islam What It Really Is. A Cult [W:407]

I won't disagree. I don't have the trouble or feel conflicted in condemning the actions of ISIS that many on the left do. Shrug.

Oh, geez, here we go.

Who are these many on the left? Just because "the left" is less willing to condemn an entire religion based on the actions of sick extremists does not mean ISIS' actions aren't damnable.

Nice try. Christians only keep the OT around because it is a chronological testimony to Christ. From Adam, to Abraham, to Moses, to David so on and so forth. It's the family tree of Christ we read about. Not the laws. Anything in the NT would be welcomed in this debate.

So you're just rationalizing your way around the bits of the Bible you don't like. What else is new?

You're misunderstanding what is clearly spelled out for you. Does the Jewish religion still exist? Yes. That was the prophecy. If you don't like the OT laws, take it up with the Jews.

No, you're misunderstanding my point.

My point isn't about Christianity, it's about a double standard when it comes to literalism, context etc. The qur'an says some horrible things, trust me I know. For example, one you missed "4:56 Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment." Pretty disgusting if you ask me, but when it comes to religion there are no ivory towers, no moral high ground for any of them.

How do you misinterpret versus about killing unbelievers? Are they metaphors for some deeper meaning? Enlighten me.

I don't know, how do you misinterpret verses about keeping slaves in the Bible? It's quite clear, you just ignore them and make excuses for why you don't take them seriously.

I never said I didn't like it. It's the OT. I said it was a chronological order of Christ. Where did you read that I didn't like it?

Whatever. I have no problem condemning ISIS without the attendant need to bash other religions. That's all.

Not getting back into that debate. Check back a few pages.

Unless you're condemning homosexuality, then the OT seems oddly fair have.

You certainly don't seem to accept it, you've just invented a reason to get rid of uncomfortable passages.

What? There's just this tiny Christian influence in the US? What's all your constant whining about oppression and horrible Christians about?

I didn't say that the religious organizations weren't powerful and weren't oppressing people. But this is a secular country. Which is why all of the religious oppression here is ultimately contrary to the constitution and the principles of this country. But not a lot of our culture really stems from anything Christian. It's modern industrial information culture. If it was Christian, charging money for interest would still be a crime.

But my actual point, which you seem to have completely (likely willfully) missed... Comparing Saudi Arabia or Iraq with America is not comparing and Islamic country with a Christian one. It's comparing an Islamic country with a secular one. If you want to compare an Islamic country with a Christian country, you need to compare Saudi Arabia or Iraq with Nigeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo. And when you compare them, they look awfully similar.

So I guess you're just embarrassed that you have to pick and choose what you believe is true, especially since there's no evidence at all that the whole of the Bible isn't a load of cow dung.

I prefer to just call them assholes as long as Obama will let me.

Can we call Obama an a-hole too? Pretty please?

Obama did refer to ISIS as a "murderous death cult," which is probably as close to "assholes" as a sitting president can get on the record.

If they're so similar why do you always defend one and bash the other? If you meant what you said, you'd be consistent but you're not.

Not picking and choosing anything. As I stated, OT are Jewish laws. Have a problem with that, take it up with Jews. While there, ask them why they don't follow NT laws? Or are they too just picking and choosing?

He could say more, he just refuses to. Political correctness sucks.

Hey, they just need jobs and you cannot call them assholes unless you call those of other faiths something worse.

Because the NT isn't part of their belief system. The OT is in every single Bible out there though. But go ahead, keep making asinine excuses to support your ridiculous religious beliefs.

You see it as "political correctness;" I see it as denying ISIS the basis of their self-granted legitimacy.

Somehow I doubt they give a damn what Obama thinks of them.
