When good god fearing Christian homes accept a demi god into their house who can magically travel the world on a whim to visit every single house in a single night to deliver presents after magically entering and then exiting a chimney.

Idol worship? Along with, like, a host of other problems?

If there was worship involved, you might have a point, but that isn't the case. Nobody that I am aware of, worships SantaClaus.

I don't think it technically qualifies as idolatry or blasphemy. It is lying though.

No, but they accept a power that boarders upon God's own?

Santa is omniscient.

Look, all I'm saying is, for such a Christian holiday, Christians have accepted a very godlike, and UNCHRISTIAN, being, as their herald.

Well actually I sacrificed my first born at the alter of Saint Nick.

No, Christians don't accept a power that borders upon God's own. SC is a children's symbol for wishing, dreaming, and reward for being good boys and girls, and not a figure of worship for Christians. SC is the secular symbol of generosity and giving, while Jesus is the religious symbol of renewed hope for the world. If Santa was considered a god-like figure, Christians would pray to him. With the exception of Catholics (and no others that I am aware of) Christians pray to God, in the name of Jesus (plus Mary for Catholics), and Santa has absolutely nothing to do with religious observance.
(and there is nothing un-christian about what SC symbolizes, which is giving)

So the message to kids is magic is OK?

Santa is omniscient.

Not quite. Santa has divine senses and awareness but the fact that he needs to make a list (and checks it twice) indicates that he is just shy of omniscient.

What I'm more concerned about is that Santa is an anagram of Satan. Since Lucifer's original job was to lure Christians away from their faith (and into things like paganism), and since Christmas has pagan origins...

There's also the fact that Satan is sometimes called Ol' Nick Scratch...

You have to get Pagans into the fold somehow.

I am a pagan and love Jehova. i love all gods of all sorts, except evil oness that do not give to the communities that 'worship' them. when you bring someone to god - your god - how do you do that usually? if you were to bash them on the head and drag them to church, they will just say what they need to to get home, yes? the best way to convert people is by setting an example - a sterotype for them to see as your ambassador, and, listen to brief excerpts from them. this is because most people don't have time to listen to long debates.

Well if you tell them Jesus is God, died was resurrected, walked on water, healed the sick, etc. etc... is not that the same thing?

I like Christmas Trees because of the nice lights and the fact it has nothing to do with Jesus. I would prefer a lot less "converting" and a lot more of mind your own freaking business.

Thanks for clarifying - I thought he was talking about the Fed Ex guy.

Presumably, that was God's power. The bible DOES have a few things to say about magic, those who practice it, and those who seem to have power similar to God's own.

Leviticus 19:31

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God. "

Acts 8:9-13

But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.” And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

Leviticus 20:27

“A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.”

I could post more, but you get the idea. Magic, when not coming specifically from God, from faith, is frowned upon. Punishable, even. The bible makes no mention of Santa. He is a magical being in whom parents convince their children to believe, as being an arbiter of gifts and also JUDGEMENT, upon them.

God's power is magic.

Christians have been participating in Santa Clause since St. Nick appeared, so idol worship hardly fits.

You might want to involve yourself in a discussion about the Idol worship of the golden calf on Wall Street.
