American Love

My suspicion about love being fake in the USA comes from using the internet and observing how love, the word, is used continually in a Political situation. I think Americans have begun to use love and hate as concepts to either validate ot disqualify political ideas. In that case, if you can piss someone off and make them hate, then you are politically more powerful. To me this is childish and indicative of how dumb American politics are.

Everyone does it. Obama can stand up and project love onto an audience and they vote for him. Christians can run their mouths at you and piss you off, then say you hate and feel politically validated. I think the USA needs to grow up.

And somehow you are above this? It sounds like you are trying to manipulate in the same fashion by insisting that Americans are childish. It sounds a bit hateful.

Any views gleaned primarily from the Internet and similar mass media are necessarily going to be shallow.

By and large, people do not actually live like what is portrayed in the media.

You want to know about love in America? I'll give you some examples of real people I know.

A man, a factory worker most would call a redneck, who married his childhood sweetheart over 30 years ago. She's suffered from a debilitating disease that has left her housebound and unable to do anything one would normally expect of a wife for over ten years, and a third of his meager pay goes to provide her medical care and medicines. He could leave her and do better for himself financially, and he could get another woman.... but he stays, because he loves her.

A woman who married her childhood sweetheart when they were 19 and 22 respectively, and spent the next 60 years together... when he got sick and disabled and mentally incapacitated, she took care of him at home, not wanting him to suffer a cheap nursing home, and did the work of three nurses 24/7 for over a year, breaking her own health and shortening her life.... because she loved him.

A man who gave up almost everything to spend sixteen years struggling as a single parent, because his child desperately needed someone sane and stable to care for him, giving up career aspirations, remarriage prospects and more.... for love of his child.

These are just a few of the stories out there in Really Real America, if you but look.

Most American communities come together when disaster strikes or someone is in need.

The usual attack on America is Leftist based anti-capitalism, America in their propaganda is a awful place because of Capitalism. Though it isnt always anti-capitalists that broadly accuse Americans of being awful many times its the Christian Right going on about moral decay. Either way they seem to want America to fail so that they can have a revolution. Of course they believe that they will be the victors. The rest of us will either be dead or will magically not exist.

Regarding this thread's message, I think my concern was for exaggeration of emotions. Many foriegners see Americans as exaggerated. You can find all over the internet people overseas asking why we exaggerate.

if you think about it, our use of the word "hate" is exaggerated. No doubt we also have exaggerated enemies. It even seems to me that by exaggerating the crime of actually not liking something and labeling it hate, like if I say "I dont like religion" then an American says "stop hating religion" and suddenly I am guilty of a hate crime and maybe even i start to feel hate, like if you are surrounded by idiots exaggerating everything, eventually you respond maybe even with wrath.

Maybe our real problem with all our wars and issues is from exaggeration. The question is why we do it. Do you believe that we dont really feel love?

You know, there were no weapons of mass destruction. No real commies most of the time. Is it for the drama? Are we drama queens in the USA? The police do it as well, shooting unarmed men, exaggerating, saying "he was coming at me! I had to take him down with my gun!"
