Little girl yells at street preacher

Even if they feel really effective, it is only their own naivety. I could care less what they think or how they feel, because their effect is only to annoy people. They are very effective at that. I am an artist, so I try to deal with everything in art, so I cant actually ignore them anymore than I can ignore Maquiladoras in Mexico! I have to deal with real life. That's why I painted the street preachers I assaulted and got the painting into a gallery and into a city newspaper.

And you're not going to change their thinking anymore than they'll change yours, with both your approaches being equally obnoxious.

No, they're not equally oboxious. While one can consider the behavior of both equally rude, the little girl wasn't interfering with the local businesses ability to attract customers to the area.

And if the religious maniac hadn't been there she would not have shouted.

Several years ago I would have laughed at my own notion here that this is an example of a demonically inspired event. Not anymore.

I'm a Christian. Let that be said first. I don't blame this girl. I hope she was not put up to this. The fact that it is filmed makes me suspicious. BUT if this is real I will say this:

I'm upset at the way a lot of Christians have rallied recently. Christianity should be about love and acceptance. Community. Doing the right thing. The turn or burn message isn't what we should be preaching on the streets. It only inspires hate. And it creates hate within.

Is that the feeling Christ wants? Hate? Didn't Christ do something with a prostitute and stones? This street preacher is casting stones. And I feel many Christians are doing just that. Casting stones first without considering that everyone sins.

So sure. This little girl might have been annoying to a born again trying to preach a holier than thou message...but it is refreshing to those of us who want to see people preaching love, tolerance, acceptance, and the things Jesus taught.

Bingo. I don't think atheists get that. The street preacher behavior isn't gonna do anything but become more resolved by the hate. They wouldn't be as happy if I questioned them on what they think Jesus would teach.

But I'm a Presbyterian who grew up in a baptist community, what do I know about self righteous behavior ;) ?

I, literally, hate bible thumping but people have a right to expression, though not disrupting a business or disturbing the peace.

The guy may have been more in the wrong.. but the descriptions of them is splitting hairs.

Rude: not having or showing concern or respect for the rights and feelings of other people.

Obnoxious: unpleasant in a way that makes people feel offended, annoyed, or disgusted.

The worst thing you can do is show any interest one way or the other with Jesus freaks. I'm not into the extremes of either side. And I'm definitely not for suppressing peoples rights, especially about what to think or believe. I think there are more agnostics, believing that some higher power might exist but not sure. Militant atheist, IMO, do the same thing as religious kooks-- by using a subject to boost their ego.

This is a valid point. I remember in Portland Maine there was a planned parenthood and always tons of christians lined up and disrupted a restaurant by shouting and showing pictures of dead fetuses until the city finally put up a barrier so that they couldnt protest in front of the door and harrass women. I am a male but I have a serious dislike of christians harassing women, giving them low self esteem, or driving them to drink. I consider it a serious social offence.

I used to eat at this guy's restaurant. It was all decorated with rock and roll memorabilia.

I'm glad I escaped from that city. There are too many tolerant liberals up there who support the Christian right to free speech. Bugger liberal tolerance for maniac religious nuts.

You complain about liberals but they are your biggest defenders against people like me.

The best way I have seen anyone deal with a street preacher was in Asheville NC with whistles. Kids carrying loud whistles blew them in the street preachers face. The whistle is alarming and you dont have to waste your breath talking or arguing.

Exactly. Shame on her, and shame on her parents for rearing such a hateful little winch. I am always amazed at those who love that we have free speech, as long as they agree with the speech.

Her parents also raised her brother, pictured here.

This little loud mouth future street whore should be taught some manners the old fashion way. Can we see a video of her home life where they all sit around the supper table and scream "SHUT UP"! at each other.

Man, some of you people are really angry at children, wanting to beat a little girl for being as obnoxious as the rest of y'all. Pathetic.

That was annoying too. Who has the time to sit around blowing whistles and horns at theists with nothing but time on their hands?

I think more people need jobs.

The moral difference that sticks out for me is that the little girl offers a way ("shut up") to get her to desist, whereas the preacher makes it clear that "there is nothing you can do".

They can't blow whistles in their free time? What about the theists? Are they so far gone as to be unemployable?

Says the guy with more than 37,000 posts...

In like 8 years, and the beginning parts of that I was in grad school, so I had a lot more free time then. Plus I have a job now, and an advanced degree. And having been in the world of Academia for so long, have experienced exactly that which occurs in that video time and time again.

You've annoyed people on the streets by shouting at them through a microphone?
