A Great Common Household Mystery:

Two socks go in, but only one comes out.

I fathom that most of us have experienced this mystery of the missing laundered sock. I have my own crazy notion about this, but have no idea why Bigfoot would bother taking my one sock. Wouldn't he need both of them ?

Anyway, I'd like to hear some ideas about this, including ways to reduce or eliminate this common phenomenon, as I don't have many matching pairs left !

Where do socks go when they vanish in the washing machine?

When you take them off to toss in the laundry hamper, use a stainless steel safety pin to attach them to each other. Leave it on through the laundering process.

But then when the inter-dimensional vortex opens up to gobble up it's intended sock/victim, it'll get BOTH socks and the pin, right ?

It very well may. I suggest that you buy 365 pairs of socks per year, plus a couple extra, just in case. ;)

And has my pencil gone the way of the Biro trail or the lost sock path?
