You can't save life without growth expansion.
Penicillin and other advancements don't have to lead to over population. Eventually we won't have the resources or money to keep everyone healthy, that's simply an inevitable fact.
Wrong.
We are just beginning to investigate the use of asteroids as sources of useful material.
Within the next 30 years we will see the start of industrial resource extraction from asteroids and/or the Moon. This will be the the greatest leap of wealth in human history.
Within this century there will be large industrial activities happening in Earth orbit. Space is the best place to do heavy engineering.
Within the next century, or maybe this one, we will see large populations living in habitats in space. We will build paradise in the heavens.
Within a few centuries some group of humans will fall out with the rest and decide to leave and go traveling. Expect this to be a habitat of a population of around a billion people.
In a thousand years humanity will be spreading over the galaxy.
In a million years expect humanity to have spread all over the galaxy.
