"Kidnapped for Christ" is a new documentary exposing the lengths to which evangelicals will go to "deprogram" their gay and lesbian children. The New Horizons Youth Ministry, with locations in Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Indiana, run a "school" for these individuals in the Dominican Republic. "Escuala Caribe" is the camp that gay and lesbian teens are sent to by their parents, with these children often taken by force in the middle of the night.

Reports of what occurs in that camp include everything from emotional and physical abuse to psychological torture.

Just another example of the disgusting, immoral, and illegal acts some people will go to while feeling justified because of their belief in a god.

There's nothing more christian than grabbing your kid in the middle of the night and forcing them against their will to go to a torture camp in a foreign country. Jesus would be proud.

The lengths some people will go to to appease their religious overlords astounds and disgusts me.

My god... If strange people ever laid their hands on me to try to kidnap me like that I would smash their ****ing skulls in. I would NEVER allow myself to be taken and or stay there. I would fight and kill my way out of there; they could have me over my dead body.

Ya this isn't really much different from generic "troubled teen" camps that prey on (err generously provide services to, for a large fee) children who may have once done something they weren't supposed to, and who's parents are either gullible or wicked.

Falling headlong into the evil of the world is exactly what happens when one abandons the See of Peter.

So, you are perfectly okay with Escuala Caribe and it's use of kidnapping, physical and psychological abuse, and total isolation from their loved ones in order to "de-gay" children?

The worst part about it is that these are the same people who would scream, cry, and moan if an identical situation occurred with Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or Atheist parents. "How DARE you send a child who came out to his parents as Christian to a camp in a foreign country to 'deprogram' him and make him an atheist!!"

It would be really helpful if you actually read my posts before responding.

I just called it evil, that should give you an idea of what I think about it.

The only thing I could think of...

Your post was rather indecipherable. It seemed, upon first read, as though the second sentence was typical biblical claptrap used to justify the existence of places like Escuela Caribe.

Either way, you have my apologies for misreading your post.

My BF showed me that video a few months ago, and we were in tears laughing. Since then, it never fails that when one of us says "f*** me" in response to dropping something, kicking something accidentally, or other screwups of life, the other will chime in with "in the ass because you love Jesus?"

If you just read my posts instead of trying to decipher them you would probably misread them less.

Apology accepted.

Ofc it is. Just like fundamentalists. Ridiculous.

I became completely certain that the maker of the video didn't have the slightest idea what he was talking about when they made the sign of the cross.

Catholic moral theology considers sodomy worse than fornication.

Irrelevant. It's to show the stupidity of fundamentalism. It's the same level of irrational rationalization that the people whom the OP talks about in the link do.

If they're criticizing fundamentalism then they shouldn't lump Catholics in with them.

Of course it does, because if Catholics made the two equal sins in the eyes of their "moral theology," they'd have to condemn a lot more of their own. It's so much easier, and is common practice among fundamentalists, to set up standards in such a way as to be able to condemn others while maintaining their own self-righteous arrogance.

I was raised Catholic. Trust me, there are CERTAINLY Catholic fundamentalists.

Catholics can't make unequal sins equal.

Reality is as it is, we just have to deal with it.

No. There are Catholics who are (insert description here). But that's not what the word fundamentalist means.

No. There are Catholics who are (insert description here). But that's not what the word fundamentalist means.

And the reality is that what sins are "equal" or "unequal" has been determined by generations of men who want to use religion as a tool for personal dominance, wealth building (i.e. The Vatican), power grabs (Oh, there's The Vatican again), and oppression of those they don't like.

So, spare us the "reality is what it is" crap. No one is buying it. Anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together can see the history of "biblical interpretation" used to justify what the interpreter is doing while condemning others.

THAT is the core of any fundamentalist logic, and the Catholic Church is not above or beyond that.

"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" But, if you don't want to do that, declare yourself a sovereign theocratic nation so you don't have to pay taxes on the obscene wealth you've accumulated or give up any power to anyone who isn't in your chosen power base.

None of that changes the fact that the very act of sodomy is unnatural. Not that it matters that much, as sodomites and fornicators both risk going to Hell.

Fundamentalism centers around the doctrine of once saved always saved. Words have meanings.

The authority of the Pope is superior to the authority of political states.

So, both sins land someone in hell...thus, they are equal.

Thanks for playing.

Alright, instead of fundamentalism, I'll just call it what it is...Christianity, regardless of sect.

The authority of the Pope is superior to the authority of political states.
That doesn't mean squat.

Not all eternal torments are equal in gravity.

It means quite a lot actually.

Ah, the typical Christian playing card. "Well, my faith says so, thus I am right."

It's easy to play that card, since it's the only one you have.

And what that has to do with your absurd contention that Catholic moral theology is inconsistent, I'll never know.

Go try your hand with someone else. I'm bored with your games.
